What are the known problems for 04-08's

I just picked up an 06 FX4 about a month ago. And I been looking around on this section the past week. What are the known problems with these trucks.

I was going over the truck today and pulled the spare tire down to fill it with air and since I have been looking around and I saw a thread for Fuel Pump Driver Module.

So i checked mine while I was under there and had a fair amount of corrosion on it. But I didn't notice any cracks. Like I seen in other peoples post. I cleaned it up and added a few washers to get it off the frame a little.

I also know the Spark plugs are an issue. I have 46,000 miles on it now. I have to get a new set of 1 peace plugs and get the old ones out. Going to do that soon.

Anyone have a problem with the front Trans cooler leaking. I noticed that mine was leaking and that the passenger side connector/plug was a little loose. I just tightened up and going to see if it loosens up again. The previous owner said he had tightened it also.

Anything else I should check for?

I bought a used 07 and would like the same info. One thread with some one liners providing a direction for searching would be great. As it stands now I've been going from section to section just perusing the titles and lucking into finding posts on known problems.

my 06 had a leaky 3rd brake light. easy fix though, either replace with a gasket or i bought some clear silicone for glass and plastic. I also had a coil issue/spark plug, which you already knew about that. Thats all i ever had a problem with. Owned it from 2006 until december 2010..75000 miles.

I believe the injectors only affected '04 and '05, but it can't hurt to check. Part number of the new injectors ends with -DC, the problem injectors end with -DB. Spark Plugs are a pain to change, but at 43K miles, you shouldn't have as much of an issue as I had 125K km's (roughly 78K miles). Wouldn't hurt to check the fuel filter, either.

Cam Phasers are sometimes an issue. One small annoying issue is the window switches keep failing.

and the spark plugs.

spark plugs (unless you get a late build 08 model)
window regulators
cam phasers on 04-05s mostly, sometimes on 06-08 trucks
some people get the leaky third brake light
sometimes people have trans problems between 50 and 100k , but if you ask me its from doing burnouts, getting sideways, putting 35s on without regearing or correcting the tire size with a tuner, fords service interval is 160k on the filter and service fluid change, i recommend doing it atleast 50k, preferably every 30k.

if you take care of it, do your homework on here, dont drive it like its a mustang, and use motocraft oil and filters you wont have a problem. (not using motocraft oil and filters can lead to cam phaser problems)

I've had my 06 Lariat for almost two years. The only real issue I've had with mine is the brakes. My front rotors were seriously warped. If you notice a lot of red/brown brake dust go ahead and replace the pads with Wagner Thermoquiet ceramics. Check Schucks/Oreilly for the current sale. The performance is great and there's no more brake dust.

Rear axle seals can go on the list too.

Only issues I've had were a leaky 3rd brake light and the front edges of my running boards were chipping due to rocks/etc... both issues fixed under warranty!

That doesn't count. Brakes are a wearable item and subject to abuse based on the driver.

Mine has 116,000 miles on it and since I've had it the only real problem I've had was the axle seals and I had to put ball joints on the passenger side. I know the plugs will be a problem too but that's not a surprise. Plus with that many miles it's no shame to need ball joints.

I've only had it for 5 months but I saw the Car Fax when I bought it and the only thing really done to it for the first 106,000 miles (before I got it) was oil changes and had the tranny fluid changed once.

When I bought my 06 used, it was inspected at a Ford dealership. Overall, was in excellent shape, in need of brakes, battery, and a new power steering line. They told me it was very common for the power steering lines to crack/leak. I think I bought a new line for about $40-45.

Good to know I am not alone. My driver side has an intermittent problem going up now. It works 90% of the time but every so often I have to fiddle with it a few times before it works.

Any uprade on the P/S lines? Are we talking metal lines or the hose? I think I gut stuck with the single metal cooler line and may want to upgrade at some point.
