Calling All Step Sides!

Well I want your input on something.
I have done some searching, but couldn't find a thread about this.

Has anyone ever used their tie downs on the outside of the truck?

I am getting ready to head down to Waynoka, OK to the Sand dunes there, and want to put the quad in the bed. I have to tool box/chest in the front of the bed, so I can't reach the lower bed tie downs. I have to leave the Tail gate down. I will be tying off the rear to the rear bed tie downs.
But can I tie the front to the tie downs on the front of the bed? Has anyone ever done this??

Thanks!

I have used them with a cargo net and thats fine have pulled them of my truck to paint them. They are not mounted very strong I am thinking they are more for appearance .

I used mine just tonight to tie on some doors laying on top of my Undercover hard cover, but that's not like a Quad being held in the truck with an open tailgate.

You have a toolbox, it doesn't go all the way to the floor does it? You can't lay down and reach the front tie downs at all?

How about going up under the tool box "wings" what sit on the bed rails, and then over the front wall of the bed and drop down to the frame itself with some good rope?

Those tie downs on the sides, you wouldn't be pulling "out" from the bed, but rather more in "shear". There are 6 of them. But the bed sides that they secure to are some kind of plastic, not steel.

My tool box does go all they way to the floor. But I think I can bearly reach my hand in between the sides. I have a chest box, not a "winged" box.

I think that I am going to just leave it in gear. That way it won't roll. And tie down the rear to the inside bed mounts with a ratchet strap. Then maybe throw a rope around the inside front bed mounts and to the quad. More or less just enough to hold it in and keep it steady.

Thanks guys!!!

Good call ,I think you would find them damaging your bed putting a load on them.

Stepside or no, you should investigate Macs Custom Tiedowns. I just posted this in Tow/Haul Forum:
