Ford really came through on warranty work
A few weeks ago third gear was slipping and truck was throwing code 0733. 06 fx4 with 58k miles and still under warranty till 60k miles. Dropped it off at dealership and waited. They had it for about three weeks working with Ford on the warranty claim. I have an Edge installed but only use it for the gauges, no tune is installed. They immediately said warranty was void because of Edge. We went back and further about Edge not being used as a programmer and needing proof that it caused the problem. They tore down transmission and Ford sent out a rep to look at truck. They found nothing to indicate computer was reprogrammed or that Edge could have caused issue. Bottom line: transmission overhauled under warranty and I only had to pay $100 deductible. I give Ford a lot of credit today for showing some common sense regarding tuners and warranty work.
The Ford warranty was only good for 3yr/36k. When Ford bumped up the warranty for 2007 (to 5yr/60k) model year in July 2006, they gave a complimentary 5yr/60k Ford Extended Service Plan (ESP) to 2006 vehicles purchased after July 2006. This repair was under the ESP and has a $100 deductible.
They probably spent more money in phone calls and sending out Rep. to "investigate" when they could have left it up to service manager where you dropped off the truck telling Ford that "Edge wasn't the cause, we are fixing it and will be filing the paperwork." Glad to hear the truck was fixed.
