Drive shaft lag?

I have the 2 part drive shaft, and was wondering if its just me or a problem with the truck.

It some times feels like the drive shaft has to catch up, or is still spinning (depending on on throttle/off throttle) at times.

Everything looked good, and felt good last time I was under the truck but its always been this way since I got the truck.

I was wondering if the two part drive shaft and carrier barring would be the cause of that.
Do they make a one piece for a 06 4x2 s-cab 6 1/2?
I have seen a 1 piece on a crew cab short bed 4x4 though.

Thanks.

A two piece drive shaft is still physically coupled the entire length it just has an extra joint in it after the carrier bearing. Should not be possible to have "lag" there. I am not completely sure what you mean by catch up or still spinning.

I am. It's the clunk that you get when the rest of the drivetrain has to catch up / slow down.

Mine does it on command. All that I have to do is lift for a second or two and then punch it. It is really noticeable now that I have installed a tuner and the throttle response has gotten so much better.

It's impossible for a driveshaft to lag. If there is slippage, it has to be in the transmission

This exactly.

For example.

I am driving, ahead the light is red.
I let off the throttle.
Light turns green while I am still rolling.
Apply throttle.
problem happens.

I do not think its in the trans, as its done it since Ive owned it (for 40K miles) and was more noticeable after I got my tuner and more after the gotts mod.

I am 99% sure its not the trans, its a jolt in the system not a slipping or waiting on the trans to catch.
I know the trans is engaging, but its like a jolt in the drive line.

Could the connection at the carrier barring be "slipping" making the front long shaft spin up, and then the short shaft catches back up?
Limited slip catching?

:edit:
If the trans is slipping, would it not slip all the time? and not under very, very specific driving conditions?
Other than this, and only under the condition I described does this happen.
There is nothing else to point at a slipping trans.

i actually think i know this feeling. i've had it do it on my truck if i let off and punch the throttle real quick. i've just never worried about it.

Its not just me then.

Did you notice it more after the larger tires?

OK, now that you have said a jolt, it is probably the slip yolk that is part of the 2 piece driveshaft. This needs to be greased from time to time, to eliminate the bumping.

Sometimes when you go from locked to unlocked on the converter it can give a bucking/clunking sensation like this and it can be more pronounced with a tuner from increased line pressure.

yes i kind of did, i always just saw it as a little bit of play in the drivetrain. i would say that between the tranny and transfer case, then from the transfer case to the rear diff., then the rear diff to the tires there has to be some form of movement. like when you put the truck in park but you can still rock it a little. i just figured it was that movement.

Every vehicle I have driven has done this if you time everything just right, even my 5 speed mustang. I am almost positive it's from the slack in your drive train. Ever noticed when you have your truck in park, you can rock it slightly? It's nothing too worry about.
