~ RoushCharger debate (4x4)

Given the recent price cut on the Non-Intercooled ROUSHcharger I am really debating the purchase.

Background: I own 2 fast mustangs already, Im not looking for super quick here on this truck.....I do want some more pickup and go and I do have intentions are towing a boat down the road. I do understand the difference that the non-intercooled version is going to produce more heat and be less power. (but the intercooled version is damn near twice the price)

Few questions for debate:
1. Is it going to be beneficial on a 4x4 heavy sled like this truck?
2. How bad will it affect gas mileage (Not that this is a huge concern, but the more MPG the better)
3. Am I gonna HAVE TO run 93 octane or could I program it for 87?
4. What should I look into installing before/along with this supercharger?
5. AM I better off getting a set of Cams installed and save the coin?

* Going for the Colder plugs & ROUSH Boost Gauge vent pod already ...plus I have an SCT already for programming purposes *

Dude I love my non IC roushcharger it really woke the truck up and yes I sent my computer to roush for their tune. you could probably get someone else to burn you a custom tune but it is included with from roush. they also sent the colder plugs with it. I got lucky and bought it on thier ebay outlet for 2400 with shipping. great price. So far I am very pleased with the awsome throttle response. however I can only use my edge tuner as a diagnostic tool acording to roush. and I only get 14 mpg average downhill without the ac on lol. if you have any more questions just hit me here.

I'm running the intercooled version in a 4x4. I wouldn't consider it superfast, it's still almost a 6 ton truck. Highway mileage isn't affected all that much. I never track in-town mileage because it's so much stop and go, but I don't notice a huge difference unless I drive aggressively a lot. I think you'd be making a mistake to invest in cams and not spend that coin toward the intercooled version, especially living in the south. Forget running 87 octane. You'd have to pull out so much timing, you'd be lucky to get 50 hp out of the unit. If you're going to tow, I think the non-intercooled version would be a mistake. Check the thread from JDM on the whipple they're selling. They may have sold them all by now, but it's not much more than the non-intecooled Roush and it is intercooled.

Yes, it's a typo. My mind wasn't properly engaged this morning. Shipping weight on my 4x4 super crew was 5,296 lbs., so it's really closer to 2.5 tons. Still a lot of weight to move. You'd need 400 rwhp to get a low 14 second E.T. at that weight plus a tank of gas and a driver, which isn't all that fast.

LoL.

True, it's a lot to move, but considering the weight and a virtually unchanged engine in how many years, add nothing more than an Edge and these trucks still haul a$$. I've widened the eyes of more than a few ricers with the accel of my truck. An SC and custom tune just adds to the pucker factor.
