Getting a tach reading using the mileage display

Quite some time ago, there was a post in this forum that showed how to get the mileage display to show many different readings such as RPM, air temp, speed and so on. I've tried doing a search but I'm afraid I'm not too god with this search engine.

Can anyone help?

Turn the key to the "ON" position and hold the trip/odometer peg. While holding the peg start the truck and hold the peg for 5 seconds and it should pop up.

Hold the reset button for 5 secs while if off,
Then while still pressing it turn to on. this will enable the MULTI-function.
Start the truck and it will stay on what you left it at.

It should work for all trucks!
Worked on my 2001 XLT Supercrew
AND
Works on my 2006 FX4 Supercrew

Thanks guys.

BUT!

Once I have it in the diagnostic mode, pressing the button will cycle through all the different displays. What are they?

Most of 'em are for the dealer, they won't mean anything to you. They're kinda like a poorboy's lie detector, they can tell if you told the truth about never redlining it while doing donuts.

I went through all the items and you're right. Most of them won't help.

I remember my Cadillac would show all sorts of things like degrees of throttle open, manifold air temp, outside air temp at air inlet, oh, a whole bunch of things. I thought Ford had the same thing. Guess not

I tried this on my 04 XLT, the only thing that comes up is "Zone 01" and the number goes up if i keep hitting the peg it goes to 15 then back down to 1. Can i just not get it on my truck?
