Does your truck hunt/stutter at idle?

Just bought an '07 Screw 4x4, and have noticed that it hunts a little at idle. It's almost a stumble, but not quite. Its just enough to feel through your seat a bit -- passengers don't even notice it until I point it out.

I've cleaned the MAP sensor, after poking around this site for a while to see what others have done -- but no avail. It still displays the same mildly annoying rumble/stumble/miss/hunt at idle.

Is this normal and/or common in the 5.4 V8? Everything seems fine at all other RPMs and speeds.

x2 on this. On my Jeep i had a high idle and the same problem. I cleaned the Throttle body and solved all my problems. But i plan on cleaning the throttle body on my truck anyways when i get back to help it run better.

TB = Throttle Body, no? I will have to poke around some more to find that procedure.

And, yep, I read the posts about using the right electrical cleaner on the MAF. This forum is a great resource.

Now that we are on the subject, is there anything else that you guys recommend doing at 80K miles? Timing belt/chain? Transmission flush? I had the dealer change the oil/filter and check the alignment before taking delivery. What else should I do, preventatively?

And how do I get this forum to default to always using my signature? I've checked everywhere, but i still must select "show your signature" with each message I send.

Thanks!

Okay, just found the article on how to clean the throttle body. Crikey, it looks like some guys just about took it down to nuts and screws to clean it.

Question: Is it necessary to remove/dismantle the TB to clean it, or will the cleaner work it's magic simply spraying it down the throat?

It needs to be removed. You don't want to get the cleaner down into the intake.

80k is spark plug time.........

I just started having the same issue with my 05 5.4....I changed plugs at 56K and it now is sitting at 76K....truck runs fine but you can notice a 50-60 RPM drop and shudder at idle (coming to a stop light, neutral, etc) and it is intermittent and very light. Feels like the truck is starving for fuel.

My TB was cleaned at 60K so I'm thinking either I have a plug that is not gapped correctly or one of my COPS (Coil on Plug) has gone out. I ordered a new set of COPS thru Global Automotive on ebay for $104 for all 8. Ford wants $84 for just one. Hopefully it solves the issue as it wont throw a MIL/CEL and the Edge Evo only reports the drop in RPM when the shudder occurs.

Like said: change your plugs, fuel filter, clean throttle body and you might as well replace the COPS when you do the plug change.

Trust me I know

Not showing the symptoms of an injector being stuck etc....if it starts to have issues while actually moving it will be getting towed to the dealership.

As soon as the COPS get here it will be going to Ford just to make sure an injector is not screwing up.

Thanks for the heads up though

Interesting. Mine shows no "idle/stumble" when the transmission is in gear -- only when idling while in "Park" or "Neutral". I suppose it might be doing it, but it's too subtle to detect.

My truck has been doing the same thing for quite some time. Do ya'll have the same rough idle when even pressing lightly on the gas for little while until it gets into the higher RPM's? One day my truck will do this and the next it won't. Although it does seem to eliminate itself once the motor warms up, and by that I mean completely warms up.
