5.4 power, 2004 vs. 2010

I have a 2004 2WD and my wife has a 2010 4WD, Both with 5.4 3 valve. I cannot believe how much more power her truck seems to have comapred to my 04. I know my truck is slightly tired (114000 miles) but this is depressing. I am not sure if my truck has lost power over time or the newer ones are just that much improved. Overall I am very happy with how my truck runs...of course as long as I don't drive my wifes! I have cleaned injectors, had tune up, good maintenance. Maybe it is in the flashing? Anyone have any ideas on how to restore/gain power.

to start, the 2010 has a 6 speed trans, while your 04 has a 4 speed trans. the extra gears make a huge difference

Plus the 2010 is newer, has benefited from some of the major solutions to the design flaws of the early 3V 5.4L's

I believe the 2010 is rated at a higher HP and torque as well

It's not rated that much higher in HP/TQ. It's the tranny that is making the difference. We're talking 300HP vs 310HP. You won't feel the difference between the two engines when strapped to the same tranny.

I test drove the '10's when they first came out and was amazed at what better performers they are when compared to the previous generation trucks. A short box-regular cab version of the 2010 with a 4.6 literally blew the doors off (in terms of acceleration) my 2005 short box-regular cab with the 5.4.....

My take is that the new trannys just make a huge difference in how the trucks perform.

I believe the 0-60 and 1/4 miles times are very close. Maybe 2/10s difference.
