I have a 07 f-150 with 46000 miles on it. I bouught it with 30000 miles on it.
i was wondering what type of maintanance should be done. no known issues with the truck yet, no lights on, seems to be running good.I was thinking on having the transmission fluid changed, and the fuel filter changed also from there on i have no ideas on what needs to be done. it has the 5.4 in it and it is 4wd. any tips would be appreciated. thanks

 

Welcome to the site. Do a quick search for "5.4L 3V spark plugs" and see what you're in for.

 

Definitely plugs...5 broke on my truck when Ford did it. Have the fluids checks... maybe transfer case fluid changed and diff fluids. Check your spare tire as well as the locking mechanism on the bumper. Tranny serviced as well. Have the fluid changed and possibly the filter in the pan as well.

 

I think everybody else has covered the "normal" stuff - except maybe for changing the air filter. So, I'll try the 4x4 system. First - and assuming you have the Electronic Shift on the Fly (ESOF) system, make sure you engage 4hi at least once a month or so. This keeps the ESOF motor on the back of the transfer case in touch with its inner feelings. (It also helps prevent it from freezing up from lack of exercise.)

The other thing engaging the 4x4 mode does is check the operation of the rest of the system. There's a solenoid located up on the firewall on the passenger side that's had some issues with water intrusion. A newer style solenoid with a built in shield is avaialble. If this solenoid goes bad, it can cause problems with what passes for locking hubs on these trucks - called IWEs. If you do a search on IWE's you'll find a ton of useful information here on troubleshooting the system. Left to a dealer, it can be expensive to fix. But if you're the least bit handy, everything is easily fixable in your driveway - for a lot less money.

thanks for the tip. air filter is good i got a k&n cle it about every 6000 mile or every other oil change and i use the 4wd often so it does get exercised.....

ok so this is a follow up to my maitenance question.
i took the truck in today for basic maintenance the dealership said i should do the following things.
1) change the fuel filter
2) have fuel system flushed and throttle body cleaned(or something to that extent)
so i did, they also did a complementary vehicle inspection and adjusted the extra-cab door on the passenger side cause it rattled every time i hit a bump
3)had tires rotated and balanced
4)oil changed, new filter
that was it, i also asked them when the transmission fluid should be changed
they said 60,000 miles
plugs and antifreeze swapped out at 75000 miles so i guess that will be my next visit. oh they charged me around $250.00 for the work they did, just wondering if that was reasonable or not

 

Do plugs sooner as they are prone to breaking when removing.
