so my truck sounds almost like a diesel when ideling. kind of a tick tick sound. soon as i give it a little gas it sounds like a normal engine. i think its just my injectors, but not sure if the cam phasers were ever replaced on this truck, I just got it bout a month ago. If i do have to replace the phsers, What is the ball park # to do this without a warranty?

I bought my 05' with 28K miles on it and it now has 88K. So far, I have replaced one window regulator, one more needs replacing and all exterior badges were replaced under warranty. Of course normal maint. items as well (brakes, tires) and regular service has all been performed. It has also had the battery replaced.

Not sure that I could ask for much more. I roll my windows down at least 3 times a day in warm weather, so I am surprised it took this long for the regulators to go out.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what bad phasers sound like. My truck was making that diesel sound too and it turned out to be the phasers. How much will it cost? That all depends on how much damage has been done. On my truck they replaced both timing chains, timing gears, tensioners, guides and phasers. I only had 48K on it at the time. I didn't do the work, Ford did and the total was around $2600 (my cost and the warranty company's cost combined). But, I'm sure you could do it yourself for a lot less.

I bought my 05 used , with 20k on it. It needed brake work. The dealership replaced everything no cost. I have replaced rotors and calipers in the front and rear pads since then. did the plugs at 60k, Had the rightside cam phaser replaced under waranty. at 96k I had to have the seal between the trans. and tranfercase replaced with a trans fluid exchange transfercase service, and the p/s pump replaced. that was $1300 +. With the exception of the trans. seal and the phaser, all the work my truck has needed has been routine maintenance . I love it and will be driving it for a long time to come. Im about to join the 100k club soon.

Had this as well and covered under my ext warranty.

Also had rear pinion seal leak and had new LC clutches installed also under warranty.

Lastly had a "tick" and it was exhaust manifold. Just an annoyance - also warranty. Total of all of these would have been around $1500-$1800 in repairs in 5/6 years. Bought mine with 15k miles on it off of Ebay and it is used only in winter (Ie 4x4 much of the time) and for commuting in cold Summer it sits except when pulling a boat one weekend day.... 70k miles here....

I just sat in a new F150 at dealer as I had plugs changes (which only cost me $160 total - yes I knew the tech and it only took him 1.45 hours even with plug breaks) and the new ones arent much nicer/improved over the '05 as far as comfort or modernizing. I expected to say WOW this is SO MUCH NICER. but I said, eh... its cleaner and smells new. Plus the extra $15K to go to new isnt worth it (I have beeen lucky and have the cash and wife OK to buy whatever I want) so its not as much a $ issue as a value issue over my '05.

So I think the '05 is a great truck and will keep it as long as she is reliable and gets the job done.

I am toying with idea of aftermarket leather though - dont like taking executive level guests onto my easily stained cloth.... My only "dislike".

It sounds like you guys have better warranty's than I do. I'm not totally sure my dealer was being honest with me on all the work being done. I had to question them on several items that they removed from my bill afterwards. I'm glad you guys love your trucks; I love mine too, but cboham30 doesn't have a warranty. Does anyone know what it will cost him in parts - if he does the job himself?

Unfortunately That last major repair / service was outside of my extended warranty. I also am considering leather interior options. At one time I found a site. I think it was "oem leathers.com" or something like that. That had new take off seatcovers for our trucks for about $300.

Just rounded 50000 miles Had one Injector stick open, was replaced under warranty. (there is a extended warranty for injectors 10 years or 120000 miles)
Changed brake pads other than that it has been a really good truck for me no complaints have decided to keep it for another 5-6 years

I just rolled over the 120,000 mile mark today. Ive had my 05 truck for a week. It had $2k worth of head work done the week before i bought it. Runs like a dream. Only thing is the rear diff (i think) makes a thunk sound when i let off the gas then get back on it. I was told that it will do it forever and not hurt anything. Idk.. its my first ford truck. always had ford race cars and chevy trucks.

With that many miles, I would start at the U-joints before I worried about the differential.

Are there any good that come with these trucks, all i have heard is bad. people say the motor is junk and wont much past 150,000 miles. Do you all have any good news about this year. I've had it for a week and im about ready to sell it....so far the power window broke, and sometimes it wont start when in park, I have put it in nuetral to start. its only done this about 4 times. that for the input in advance
Well, I just traded my `98 F150 and got a `05 F150 FX4 that has 51K on her. I drove this truck for 450 miles and the transmission was shot. So now it`s sitting at the dealers waiting for a new transmission. I can only agree with you, but as a Ford man that I am, I do back up these trucks...

I bought a used '05 scab three years ago. I've been on this site more than I care for checking on the solutions to the problems it has had (at least we have a site to help) I have been $100 to $300 repaired to death.... unfortunately I am not in a position to get something new.......imo mine is a total pos. , and I take care of everything I have.

Hi, about your extended warranty, look into extending it before it runs out. That`s what my dealership told me, i`m in New York state. Good luck.

As with anything, you may get a dud now and then with any product. Having said that, my 2004 has been outstanding. It has 123,000 miles on it now. I've had it since it was new (I ordered it and took delivery in March 2004). So far, under warranty I had the rear end clutch pack replaced (faulty from the Ford supplier - bound up too tight on turns). Also had the outside temp sensor replaced. After the warranty expired, I had both front window regulators break (quick and easy $150 fix, per), fuel pump driver module was in bad shape so I replaced it before it went bad, replaced the battery (before it went bad). Overall it's been nearly perfect and it's in great shape. Oh one more thing. The parking brake liner fell off the metal part but I'd consider that a normal regular maintenance issue...they were just old.

I'm confident enough in my truck that I'm taking it this summer on a trip from Cincinnati to Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountains, Denver, Kansas City and then home to Cincinnati again. I see no reason why I should fear taking it. Like I said, it's been a very reliable vehicle for me. Never once left me stranded.

Keep in mind, if you buy a truck used, you don't know what the previous moron has done to it...how it's been driven, maintained, etc, etc. A guy I know had a 2005 (newer than mine) and he took it mudding and so on and tore the hell out of it. Beat it to death...then wondered why it was a piece of crap. He tore of the tranny for one thing. Again...mine has been perfect. Now I'm still driving a nice truck and he's driving a beater car since he can't afford another nice truck. His fault.
