Shutter???

2007 Harley Davidson S/C

Lately, last month or so. If I'm "pushy" on the pedal from a stop. I fell a slight shutter momentarily. I don't know where it's coming from. Wondering if anyone has ever experienced said "shutter" 51k miles on the ticker. Thanks

When you are at a dead stop, does it shutter when turning, going straight, or both?

If it's when turning, it's LS clutch chatter. If it's all the time it might be u-joints.

One bottle is enough to start with. Only the 10.25" axle needs 2.

Alrighty A.) I don't know how to change it. B.) I don't have anywhere to change it. C.) I have to drive from D.C. to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Thursday. Anyone know where I can get this done.. And what I should expect to pay? I'll also be pulling a 5x8 trailer all the way. Would it hurt if I waited until I get to MS to do it? I have everything I'd need to do it there.

I ran with mine shuttering for a few months til I had time to do it. the problem is the limited slip discs are binding. your fluid has broken down. The longer you wait the more harm your doing to the discs so try do it asap. but it won't leave you stranded. you'll see black particles of clutch material in your oil when you drain it.

The ford service bulletin says that if you feel that shuttering- to have your limited slip clutch plates replaced. I thnk i was quoted something like $750 by a mechanic to do it in his own garage. Ford will be much more. But I decided to just hide it with the modifier until I can do more research. It's probably a job I can handle.

To do just the fluid change, I thnk it was about $75 in fluids and blue RTV sealant. you have to remove your diff cover. spray everything clean with brake cleaner then put on your RTV and cover, then refill.

With 1 bottle I still had some shuttering, then I put a second bottle and it went away. I talked to ford about it. one of the techs said he puts 2 right off the bat every time. that way you don't have to go back, and it won't hurt anything.

good life lesson, take twice as much as you need. then your good forsure. haha

If you take it in, a diff fluid change will cost you $125 to $150. Any competent shop can do it, just make sure they use the correct fluid and modifier.

I have always used Royal Purple in mine because it already has modifier mixed in, however I too am noticing a slight shutter at take off and more noticeably while driving here recently. I guess I too will try a bottle of modifier if it can't hurt anything..

If you buy modifier, I recommend you get it from Ford.

Motorcraft XL-3...

Not to take away from the OP's thread, but this stuff is fine to add in with RP 75-140 that already had LS additive in it? I had read that sometimes whats in the 'premixed' types is not enough... I always just figured it was enough. It's worth a try to add a little if it won't hurt anything. However In my case I think my shutter/vibration issue is bigger things, i.e. the damn driveshaft

alrighty will it hurt if I throw some modifier in there now and just replace it all when i get down there? It's noticeable enough that I don't feel comfortable with that long of a drive pulling a trailer. Will 2 bottles of modifier still make a change with broken down fluid? And where would I add this too? location etc.. I'm a mechanical noob. thanks all
