Front coil Springs and shock absorbers

I just noticed that my both front coil springs at the bottom 2nd coil is broken.
Looking for a replacement. Part number is 5310. Checked some online parts suppliers and there a several types of coil springs. Can someone recommend me a replacement that will give me the same ride quality that came with the car. Is ride quality comprimised if I go with heavy duty?
Should I also change the shocks with the coils? Any recommendations appreciated. Shock absorbers calling for part number 18124 ASH172.

With that lift and the large wheel/tire set up you have, I recommend the strongest springs you can find. Ride compromise is a forgone issue. Suspension to back up the current set-up is the issue you want to address. You've probably already seen there are spring/shock combos for sale preassemled. Others here with lifted/large wheels, chime in on options...

If you want some direction regarding the differences in springs, you can contact Domenic at Tasca Auto: dstangelo@tasca.com

But here's a thought: I just got my monthly 4Wheel Parts catalog and saw that Rancho makes their QuickLift shock with a spring already installed. This is great for you as you get both shock and spring all in one. They're calling it QuickLift Loaded: http://gorancho.com/shocks.php?shock=quickLIFT_Loaded

Note: This setup is designed to lift your front end about 2" so as to level your truck and eliminate the factory rake.

Good luck!

Oops! I was looking the 1st responder's truck stuff. Monroe (and probably others) also sell the preassembled shock/spring sets. I've been thinking of going that route muself.

Side note. I seem to be reading an inordinant number of threads about front springs breaking in the lower area.

Ok, according to the Ford dealer I have the regular ones. If I only decide to replace the broken springs, do I need anything else that need to be replaced other than the shock absorbers?
thanks,

I had the same thing happen to my '04. I just bought the complete Monroe strut assembly from Rock Auto and replaced them both. Rides just like stock, maybe just a tad firmer. Better than messin' with those springs. Those things can hurt you if you don't have the right tools to tdo the job, or know what your doing. If you buy the Monroes make sure you completely tighten down the top shock nut after they are installed. Very importsnt. Mine weren't completely tight from Monroe, and were moving in the top mount.

Primechoice has strut assemblies for your '04, 105.00 ea. and free shipping.
I had a broken rear spring on my Explorer and replaced all 4 on that truck with the Primechoice units. So far so good.

Mikedom; Thanks for the info. Did you have to replace the Lower Mounting Bolt And Bushing?
Friend of mine told me to stay away from Monroes and he wasn't clear why.
How is the handling for you so far?

I replaced my front shock/coil overs with Fox racing units.

I still have the stock coil overs with Bilstine 5100's installed if anyone is still interested in replacement. 5100's have 23k on them

Mine are fine. I have about 6,000 miles on the replacements. You reuse your lower bolt, the the new struts have the bushings in them already. Alot of dealerships in my area use these all the time. Just remember to tighten the center shock nut. It may look tight, but its not. I've put 2 sets of these on, and both were the same. Good luck. Pretty easy job. Just need to remove the tie rod end on the lower control arm to slide the bottom out.
