Idle speed

Hello, I'm 47 years old and I'm used to carbs, not injectors and computers. I just disconnected the battery yesterday and pulled all the COPs so I could replace the plug boots and springs, now I think my idle speed is a little low. Now in my day I just grabbed a screwdriver and raised it a little and checked it with my tach/dwell meter. On this '04 5.4 liter, I don't have a clue? Is there an idle speed adjustment screw on the throttle linkage? The tach in the dash reads about 450 to 500 rpms in drive. Is this in the ballpark, just seems a little low.

Dan

There is no adjustment, it's all computer controlled. You have an electronic throttle, there is no linkage. Give it some time to relearn.

your 450 to 500 is about right with the truck in gear. i know thats what mine is. in park or neutral/no load on the engine, it reads about 600.

this is all with the engine at operating temp of course.
