help with my fuel filter disaster.

so i tried to do the fuel filter today. i should just stop trying to do things myself. i mess everything up. i bought the fuel line disconnect tool, the fg-986b filter, and i have 2 white clips that come in the driveworks filter.

first off, the blue clip broke, then to get the filter out i had to put a small pair of needle nose pliers in there to push the rest of the blue clip in, and that broke the slot on the actual fuel line. the slot where the clip goes in, the back of it, closest to the fuel filter is very thin, and that broke.

so now, i probably need the whole line that goes from the tank to the filter correct?

if i could find a blue clip alone, i would still have a broken line, does anything push on that?

that line is 125 $ and i have another dealer calling be back with a labor estimate

any ideas?

also, the motorcraft 986b filter is too small. it goes in, but wiggles and is not tight like it should be, so im going to return it for the purolator one. all this and the factory filters still in there.

Can't help you with that line, but the filter you want is an MC FG-1083 - just like the one in the pix...

EDIT - this may help with the clip issue: https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...ight=blue+clip

Good luck.

You should be able to just replace the fitting. You'll need a new section of fuel line, a barbed connector and a new fitting. Cut the original fuel line about 6-8" or so back from the filter, push in the barbed connector then push the new fitting into the new piece of fuel line. Go under the truck, line up the connector where it fits on to the filter then cut the new line where it meets the center of the barbed connector. Measure this carefully so as not to come up short. Push the new line on to the connector and problem solved.

EDIT - ignore - I see now you want the fitting, not the blue clip. See Matt's post below. My bad!

I took that silly clip off mine on the first filter change and put one off an older ford, any part store sells white fuel filter clips super EZ to use and replace.

Go to a local parts store, not autozone, preferably one that makes up fuel hoses. You can have them make up a new one for about 20 bucks, I did the same thing.

You should be able to get all the pieces from Ford. The fuel line may already have the fitting installed. Then you just have to do the rest of the repair yourself.

FiveSpeed,

You should learn from your mistakes. We all make them. When I was 15 I tried to change the oil on my car by myself to impress my dad and sho whim that I could do it. I ended up draining the manual tranny fluid. (In my defense it said "oil" above the bolt) I realized something was very wrong when the red fluid poured out of the car and I only got about 1.5 quarts of fluid, not 4/5 quarts. This happend about 12 PM on Saturday. I needed Synchromesh fluid only sold at dealerships and they closed at 12 PM. We had to push my car out of the garage and I had to have my mom drive me to the dealership for fluid on monday.

The embarrassing part was I had been watching and helping my dad change oil for years. But I have yet to make that mistake again.

Relax it's not brain surgery, and no one is going to die. The worst you will be out in this case is a few bucks, some extra work.

napa sells a kit to fix this very thing. the same hard plastic fuel line, barb fitting, and the end has a clip, for 15 bucks. should have this fixed tomorrow.

i wasnt exactly rushing, the clip was destined to break, the line that broke itself probably was a ltitle my fault but is still very brittle.

now though it will be the same relase needing the tool so i wont have to mess with this blue clip again
