'05 Injector Warranty

Hi guys. I've been lurking around here for quite a while, but just now registered.

Anyway, my question revolves around the injector warranty for the 2005 model years. I was unlucky enough to have a stuck injector (#7) which has caused some sort of engine damage (heavy knocking). The dealer said they had to tear down the engine to determine if the damage is from the injector failure.

I don't see any other reason for the damage to the engine (64k mile on the truck), but I'm a little concerned that they may try to pin the damage on something else and stick me with the bill.

Has anyone had trouble getting repairs done under the injector warranty for subsequent damage?

Thanks,
Dave

I didn't have any engine damage but it did foul a few of my new plugs. They replaced all plugs (after I had just done them 3 weeks prior) and changed the oil with no cost to me but then again that is pennies to what it may cost to repair/replace and engine.

We'll see. I'm pretty sure the injector flooded the cylinder and then bent a rod (or worse) when I went to start it. It ran, but there was a pretty nasty knocking sound.

I'll keep you guys informed.

Stealth had an engine hydrolock and got a new short block. All they have to do is check the injectors. If one is leaking, it caused the problem.

Correct. This is a Ford Motor Company fuel injector warranty extension for 05's with the 5.4 3v engine, so the dealer cannot stick you with it if there's a leaky injector, so long as you fall within the year and mileage parameters of the warranty. Once they know an injector is at fault and you have bent engine internals, Ford eats it and you get new stuff. My case I got a new short block and one injector for free along with all the labor and all that. I sprung to have the other 7 injectors replaced for peace of mind.

Welcome to the stuck injector club.

As others have mentioned, it should be covered. Keep us posted and best of luck.

Thanks guys. Called the dealer today, they said it would be toward the end of the week before they know anything. I'll keep you posted.

The truck is getting a new short block and drivers side cylinder head. Apparently the #7 rod broke from a fuel hydrolock and launched the piston into the head. I'm not sure why they just don't save the labor and put a long block in...

They gave me a Dodge Caliber as a rental. That POS makes me wish I was driving my wife's Toyota.

Got my truck back (finally). Everything seems normal, although I only drove it about 3 miles. Any recommendations as far as breaking in the new short-block?

Just treat it like a new truck.
