Transmission issues ='(

okay first off let me say im a moron.

secondly, i have an 05 f-150 with the 4.6.

The issues:
~Put in drive and its hesitant before it engages. no noises or smells, just takes a second to go into gear.
~shifting from 1st to 2nd, it doesnt want to, it gets to about 2k rpms, where it usually shifts, and seems to die down. RPM's climb to 3500 and then it will shift.

Yesterday i had some friends over shooting. One of my friends gf's said she had never done a doughnut. Well me being a showoff i told her to jump in. went and spun around a couple times. drove it that evening and it was normal. This morning the issues start.

I am only 18. I own this truck. its my baby. I do use it, pull trailers and what not. Its NEVER BEEN ABUSED, other then a doughnut or so ='(.

Tranny was serviced at 100k, its at 130 now.

Have the girl take the wheel, put the truck in reverse, then floor it in the opposite direction that you did the doughnut in. So if you had your wheel all the way to the left, this time, have the girl turn the wheel to the right when she goes wide open throttle in reverse. Make sure you're in a parking lot so that she doesn't slam your truck into anything.

Hate to say it but, chalk this one up to bad life decisions. Hope you have some money to drop on a new tranny, and hopefully you didn't 'f' up your axle, hubs, or wheels doing donuts... wanna do donuts, don't do them in a full size truck, do them in YOUR FRIENDS car... that way, if something gets screwed up, its not your problem.

hahaha.

Yea man truck was not built to do these kind of things. Definitely sounds like that tranny is done. I found out that trucks can't float in my 2000 F-150. Hope it works out for you.

Ouch man, that sucks... I feel your pain though since I lost my 04' Transmission at 97k miles... and I didn't even get the satisfaction of doing a donut lol. Hope you can get it fixed and don't have to trade it in on something else. It cost me roughly $1900 after it was all said and done with to get my rebuilt. Good luck.

The forums really are doom and gloom. I had the same symptoms in the past with my Ranger. Turned out to be a blown gasket on the valve body and a cracked seal on the pump. Had it replaced and hit the road for about $200.

Is it throwing any codes? Get it into a shop and get a diagnosis before giving up hope.

Okay well i have to say i am feeling a little better.

I have a friend who works at the local ford dealer. He told me to bring it by and let him take it for a drive. 80 bucks to run a diagnostics, he will drop that price for me.

It is definitely the tranny. I dont think the tranny is done. Its not like all the stories i have read. its that one gear, going from 3-2 under acceleration under load, it searches and cant find it. I feel like thats where the gear was in the doughnuts, went from 3-2 and too much stress stripped it out. Oh yea and the whole hesitant to go into gear thing. That prices are, 4000 for a referb from ford installed guaranteed for 3 yrs, used tranny with -50k miles for 1200 plus the price of install. idk.

Set your Edge back to stock and see if it still hunts around 3-2.

Dont feel bad. Mine is doing the same thing and have a warranty on my truck, yet the dealer says this is normal shifting. They went ahead and flashed the PCM, and re-lubed the spindles of the driveshaft. Helped for about 3 miles and started these exact same problems. Although I dont do donuts, I do tow a lot of weight. Let us know what the problem is because I am going to Ford with this information and chewing their rear ends out for not fixing this probelm. Truck has been in the shop 4 times for this. It is frustruating because you dont know if the truck is going to get into 2nd gear or not.

Ohhh that would be nice. Its ONLY drive, not 1st, 2nd, or reverse.

I dont think i will get messed around with with this dealership. They are very straight forward. Idk, like i said, this is definitely a tranny issue.

So i took it to aamco after a friend at work suggested them. went their and got a free diagnostics/test drive. they put me down for $1212.56 if they are correct. could go no higher then 2300 for a rebuild. The guy was very nice and i felt comfortable leaving my truck there. Now im driving a 1952 pinto until monday, sarcasm.
