How to replace license plate light?

Just curious of how the actual light socket comes out? I got one side off, though it seems to be broken and was just glued together. Must have been the dealer when they replaced the rear bumper and step pad. However, I cannot figure out how the non broken side comes out. I want to replace both bulbs even though one still works.

Thanks for any advice.

Twist and pull out the backside of the bumper.

Also, is there a trick to the left side? It's such a tight squeeze. I can't seem to get my hand in there quite enough to twist it at all. The right side seems to have a bit more room.

No trick, just gotta stick it in there.

Or try with the other hand sometimes yoiu can get a better angle that way.

Or worst case if you've got big paws grab a pair of metal shears and start snipping your fingers back till your hand fits...

I just swapped mine out with LED lights... It is a PITA to get up into that left side but it can be done. Getting them back in place is fun too.

Hey NCSU, what LEDs did you use? Where did you get them? Are they are bright as the stockers? Thanks for the info.

And sorry OP to hijack, but at least you get a bump, and it is somewhat related.

Hey Colonel, I got them from v-leds.com... I ordered the 194_2_BHPF_W_6K 2 HID 6K WHITE HIGH POWER PARKING 2 LED BULBS 194 168 158 for $9.99. They're brighter and whiter than stock. I'll get a photo tonight.

Thanks for all the help. I just ended up replacing the right side as I couldn't figure out the left.. and, it's not burned out, so I'll wait until I HAVE to do it. Sucks I didn't notice the dealer broke the right side 1.5 years ago when they replaced my bumper and step pad. I just super glued it back together for now. Held up for a year and a half that way and you can't tell at all. You can only see when you look at the inside of the light cover.

Anyway, thanks again.

I found that the entire light socket will just push though if you push it from the back. That said, I still cannot figure how to get the cover off the socket. I tried everything and it won't budge.
