Talking New Member with a new to me F150 SCrew 4x4 Lariat 2004

I just recently bought a used 2004 SCrew F150 Lariat 4x4 with the 5.4 Liter. It had high miles which wasn't a big issue since I just wanted the truck for around the house. I also have a 2007 SCab F150 XL 4x4 with the 5.4 Liter. I am having a few issues/questions...........

Is it common for the 5.4 to have a lifter issue?

The truck I bought has the 6 disc CD changer, I would like to swap that out, the question is; did this truck come with some sort of higher end audio system? I would rather just change the HU and slowly change the speakers but there seems to be some sort of plastic encased component under the rear seat on the Drivers side, is this some sort of aftermarket amp/speaker?

I want to level the truck, I see most people saying to use a 2.5". Is there any particular brand that is better quality with a simple/easy install? Relatively cheap.

I am trying to find new tires, currently I have the factory 18" rims. I have the 17" rims on my work truck. I could care less about the height, but it seems that 17" tires seem to run roughly $30 cheaper per tire on average. Would it benefit me in the end to go to the smaller tire? Does anyone have a site tht they use, that generally has good deals? I was looking at the Firestone Destination AT or Michelin LTX M/S like I have on my work truck.

Last thing, I was thinking of a retractable tonneau since the truck will mainly be used to drive to my beach house in Florida, any particular brands better than others? Again, relatively cheap.

I have Destination ATs on my truck and couldn't be happier. These are great tires.

congrats on the new purchase!

I haven't personally used either of those tires, but I work at Discount Tire and I can tell you that we don't even sell Firestone because they have the most tire recalls of any other brand. I know a lot of people run them and are happy with them, but its something to think about. Those Michelins are really good tires, but can be expensive from most stores. Check out www.tires.com many different brands and customer reviews,

That plastic enclosure under the rear seat on the driver side is most likely the factory amp and subwoofer in the optional Audiophile package. I cant be sure without pictures though.

Congrats on the new purchase. Your lariat is a better packaged deal than your XL, should have a lot more goodies inside the truck. But You have the Audiophile package for your radio which you have the 6 cd changer and the back encloser is your amp and sub.

The rim question would be your preference whichever size you would like 1" wouldnt make much difference in how your truck reacts to either lower MPG or wear and tear.

Heres a few sites for tires(or you can just google cheap tires)

Tonneau cover seeing that you dont want to spend too much money why dont you look for any used one on ebay or just get a roll up one I think brand new they cost around 200
