Problems Removing Steering Wheel

Hi all,

I've read all of the posts regarding removing the steering wheel. I loaned out a claw type gear puller from Advanced Auto (couldn't pull it off by hand).

What do I brace the large threaded rod against when tightening it down? I know it is wise to leave the large torx bolt in when trying to pull the wheel by hand so you don't get smashed in the face, but with a puller, do I take the bolt totally out or leave it in a few turns?

Thanks all!

I pulled my 06 wheel off recently and I retracted the torx bolt out as far as I could and used it to push on. I used a piece of "scrap" laying around to keep the torx bolt from getting marred. Those wheels are on tight, I had to realy crank down, but it did pop off.
