Question Need some answers for a newb!

So I just recently got my truck and as such a few basic questions come up.

It's a 2007 5.4L F150, FX2

What octane gas should I be using? My gas cap door just says "Ford recommends BP."

What kind of oil suits these engines well? I live in Texas if you've got a weight recommendation.

And finally, I'm coming up on 30k and I'm going to do a transmission flush when I hit it, along with the fuel filter and maybe some other basic 30k-ish things.
Any recommendations on what kind of transmission fluid to use? Just plain old ATF that comes out of the pumps at work?

Thanks in advance for any input! (unless you tell me the run it on diced seals)

Unless you are running a tune, 87 is just fine for fuel.

Believe 5w20 for oil is good. There are so many out there, obviously ford is going to recommend motorcraft. I have head good things about mobile1, castrol has always been pretty good to me.

Dont remember when a tranny flush is needed/recommend but 30k seems a little early. Do you know what the recommended is?

i'm a big believer in doing fluid flushes more often than absolutely necessary. i can do all my own services so it's not costing me anything except the fluids themselves.

no need to use any synthetic oils is there?

The BP gas cap was a promotional thing that allows BP to advertise their gas at the cost of supplying the gas cap to Ford for free. Kinda like the GM idiots that like to claim that the Corvette MUST have Mobil 1 in it or it'll blow up. It's a promotional deal, nothing more.

The correct oil in your engine is any Xw-20 oil wearing the Ford spec on the back of the bottle. The best out there for formulation and turning in the lowest wear metals is Motorcraft oil. If you have a favorite, use it if you like but stay with the Xw-20 oils. A Purolator or Motorcraft filter are the best for your engine. They use a silicon anti-drain back valve that others may not use, like a Fram.

I would suggest doing a power flush this time using Motorcraft fluid. It is a very good blend with the correct additive package for your transmission. Next time, pull the pan and do an ATF change. Alternate between a power flush and pulling the pan every 30,000 miles for a trouble free life.

Welcome to the Ford family. You have finally arrived as close to heaven as you'll ever get without dying.

There is no NEED to use synthetics but it doesn't hurt.

i was told when I purchased my truck, that while under warranty, I needed to use synthetic oil... BUT that might have just been the dealer blowing smoke up my ****... if you still have a warranty, which at less than 30K, i would bet you do, read the fine print or consult a dealer / ford service center.

That's smoke. The factory recommended oil is Motorcraft 5W20 semi-synthetic. *ANY* 5W20 oil that meets Ford spec 930 will satisfy warranty requirements.

yeah, thats what I figured.

I use synthetic oil anyways, but figured I'd share what I was told.

If you are going to the dealer, just keep it simple 5-20 Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft filter, but if you are changing it yourself, get them both at Walmart and save some money.

i'm not gonna buy oil at the dealer, it'd be cheaper to let them change my oil for me.

We are saying that Walmart sells both Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft filters.

Yes, oil that meets 930 will say it on the bottle - and it will only be 5W20.
