2008 F150 Very Sluggish

I have a 2008 Supercrew 4x4 F150 that is very sluggish and not pulling load very well. I am not sure if there is something wrong or is the truck just underpowered. While pulling my 18' aluminum boat which is under 2000 lbs including the motor and trailer. The truck is very sluggish and struggles to maintain 70mph. For those that pull trailers and loads with your truck does this sound like the truck is not running right? I am getting about 11mpg pulling my boat all highway miles (which seems low to me also). The only thing I have done to the truck is put a set of 285/70 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. The truck has 39,700 miles on it. I have replaced the fuel filter and ran fuel system cleaner through it. I have tried 83,87 and 89 octane fuel with no difference.

ive got a 22' center console bay boat i tow regularly. id guess trailer and all im at around 5k lbs. my truck has no problem holding 70mph, and ive got the exact same tires you do just slightly bigger. i get around 9-10 mpg when towing it. Do you have the 5.4, and also which gears are you running.

to answer your question though id think you wouldnt have any problem towing that weight at 70. maybe you should look into getting a tuner if you dont think anything is wrong with your truck. also make sure you have your o/d off, because i could see it possibly having a hard time if it wasnt.

Yes I have the 5.4 and to be honest I am not even sure what gears it has in it.

Ok I have 3.55 gears...If I get a tuner will the canned tunes work for me if my truck is stock? Also, If I add an intake and exhaust can I get custom tunes added to it later? If I were to get a tuner that I plan on using the canned tunes which would you suggest?

Yes, canned tunes will work if your truck is stock. However custom tunes I've heard really wake these trucks up.

If you take a look at the programmers section of the forum you will see one of the most widely recommended programmers is the Gryphon. They have the ability to have custom tunes created for any mods your truck has (ie your pending Intake / Exhaust mods).

I have an Edge Evolution (basically a Gryphon without the ability to have custom tunes) and I love it. I'd like to upgrade to a gryphon in the near future. You can find used Edge's and sometimes even Gryphons in the Classifieds section for really good prices.

Take a look at the programmers section of the forum and you'll find all kinds of information!

Good Luck
