Thanks. Well my throttle body wasn't that dirty as it was cleaned a few months ago but the old TPS was plastic crap. The new one is metal internals.....not sure if that matters but it's on and we'll see if that helps.

achap - I haven't looked at the fuel pump driver yet because I just realized today I have no way of lowering my spare. :o

I tried to use my wife's from her ford explorer sport track but no luck. Looks like I'll have to hit a junk yard.

Subscribing.

I have had the same problem. It's frustrating because I could never reproduce the problem. With the information above I'm certainly going to drop the spare and take a peek at the FPDM.

Thanks for the info guys.

no, there wasnt one around where i was working, checked the code first at autozone. yeah i know it sometimes isnt accurate, but its all i could do at the time. now the light is off...so i cant have it checked again. i just went to autozone and picked up 1 of 2 camshaft position sensors....the other will be ni this evening. $30 for the 2. Now I have to find where they are under the hood...says in front of each cylinder head. Ill update once i have both sensors replaced, hope for the best

Snap a few pictures on their location when you change them out for reference.

We'll figure this out sooner or later!

alright, sensors changed out...didnt have a chance to take pics, but it is very eay, took less than 15 minutes for the both of them. They are at the very front of the cylinder heads, with a plug attached to each. 8mm socket worked just fine.

Upon first start up, sounded rough for about 1 second, then fine...RPM's around 800-900 after smoothing out after crank. Reverse, drive, and neutral around 100-150 RPM's above what they were prior to changing the sensors.

Test drive: Keep in mind, like many others here...this is a random problem that happens random times...so its impossible to tell if the problem has been fixed with just a 10 min drive.

I tried almost everything possible to get the motor to do what it was doing, learning from what iv'e noticed while driving it in the past month, and couldnt get it to have a rough idle once during braking, slowing down, or waiting at a stop light. Revved motor slightly in these different situations to "try to" get the sensor out of whack i guess you could say...nothing.

I know these methods are not proven but coming from my experience driving the truck the last 2 weeks out of town, i'd say its def better. It got so bad that the only way i could keep the truck running while not on the throttle, below 1200 RPM's, was shift into neutral and rev. Very annoying while braking, driving in traffic, turning...

But as i stated before, it seems as if the truck has a mind of its own. Only time will tell if this is the fix...at only $30 bucks, it cant hurt

VCT - Would that also be know as a MOTORCRAFT DY922 Crankshaft Position Sensor?

I'm thinking about ordering 2 (2 right?, one each side?) and replacing them for the hell of it. On RockAuto the only thing I can find that's close to a VCT is what I have listed above.
