No, VCT stands for variable cam timing - that's what the cam phasers do.

It's listed under Ignition - camshaft position sensor.

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # PC643

FORD (1997 - 2008) $20.79

yes, 2...HOWEVER.........

after a few days of driving around with the new sensors in, its hard to say if the problem is resolved yet. Yes, it IS around 90% better, and has not died once. But it has once had the shudder...and didnt last but a few seconds.

Trying to pinpoint the issue...the past couple of times this has happened, it was right after hard braking (fast drop in RPM's) and then the engine shudder comes. Quick tap on the throttle, solved. Since ive been easy on it, no problems at all. Ill give it more time and see how it goes, but i can say the sensor replacment has helped MY issue, hopefully yours

achap - Let review what we have done so far. Here is my list...

[1] Cleaned MAF sensor
[2] Cleaned throttle body
[3] Changed spark plugs
[4] Changed throttle body sensor
[5] Did seafoam in crankcase and vacume line
[6] Had diagnostic on alternator and replaced battery
[7] New fuel filter

I just ordered COP's and 2 Camshaft Position Sensor.

I just wanted to update this thread and since around 8/7/2010 when I changed my COP's and 2 Camshaft Position Sensor I have not had a start or idle issue. The COP's were from global and the Camshaft Position Sensor I bought from RockAuto (STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # PC643).

I'm thinking about ordering 2 (2 right?, one each side?) and replacing them for the hell of it. On RockAuto the only thing I can find that's close to a VCT is what I have listed above.
There are 2 different things located under each cam/valve cover that are related to the VCT.
1. Cam phasers.
2. VCT selonoid.

Cam phasers are the most problematic out of the two but sometimes the vct selonoid can be an issue also.

Not sure what is the correct wording but on my order form from RockAuto they are labeled "Camshaft Position Sensor" which 2 were located 1 on each side located front of motor. I'm not super mechanically intelligent but I can make my way around the motor.

The other sensor/item you refer to, Cam phasers, those are the problematic parts that make a ticking sound? I had my Cam phasers replaced under warranty several months back (if that's what you are referring to).

Throttle position sensor, you are correct (The sensor located to the left, attached, of the throttle body, under hood.

The cam shaft position sensor is on the front side of the motor, totally visible and accessible with moving a few hoses.

The vct selonoid is under the cam/valve covers, you can't see it unless the covers are off, you can the connection for it when the cover is on. It's right behind the cam phaser location, mounted in the head.

Here's the thread with pics......

We thought mine was Phasers or Solenoid. Turned out to be timeing chain guide was toast and chain jumped a bit. Aftrwards woudl die at idle. MAF sensor was dirty and couplde reflash updates and its like new (but quieter)

Just got the call from Ford so I'm going to update this thread and my other thread as what the issue was. Again this was related to hard starting, rough idle and acceleration.

[1] #4 fuel injector was leaking which caused a new 6 week old plug to go bad. Both were replaced by Ford.

[2] Cam shaft on pass side was off and they had to reflash my PCM. They said with the new flash and injector/plug fix it runs great.

I'm on my way up to pick up my truck. Total cost was $117 which is my diagnostic fee on my extended warranty.
