4wd not engaging!
4wd not engaging!
Hello all. I have a 2005 f150 and my four wheel drive will not engage. I have a kind of "buzzing" sound coming out of my left front end. I thought it was an exhaust leak and was about to take it in for that when I noticed that when i try to engage my 4wd it stops. It also only happens when I am going up a hill or have a load on. I can hear the actuator doing it's thing but I get no 4wd. I was looking in the chilton manual and can find nothing on 4wd hubs only something they are calling an integrated wheel end. Did that replace the hub? And if so how hard is it to replace yourself? I think my 4wd went out when I was trying to back my tool trailer over a curb while turning on semi dry pavement. I heard a loud bang but still was able to get it up curb so out of sight out of mind until I needed 4wd again the other day. I appreciate any help you all can offer. Thanks in advance.

The repairs are relatively easy. Check online for parts prices, the solenoid and IWEs are Ford only parts, and should cost about $25 and $75 respectively. Most aftermarket repair manuals seem to be nearly useless for 4WD repairs, but several of us on various forums can help you sort this out a lot cheaper than a shop.
