2007 F-150 FX2- Driving in snow?

Hey, im looking into getting an f-150 and getting away from my 07 ford ranger i went to a dealership today and was looking at an 07 FX2 Supercrew, 5.4 L. and an 07 XLT with XTR package. From my experience in the 4x2 ranger its horrible in winter even with extra weight and winter tires.
I like the look of the FX2 way more then the XTR but i dont know if it will be any better in winter. The salesman said it would def. be better then my ranger but not as well as a 4x4.

Does anyone have any experience driving an FX2 in winter, preferably a Canadian winter??

Thanks for your help!

I live in central ny where winters can get pretty harsh at times and honestly when I had an Fx4 f-150 i never once used 4x4 just put a little weight in the back. So when I bought my 07 Fx2 I had a winter rat but it blew a head gasket right before winter and was in the shop for 5 months which was basically the whole winter. Now I didn't put any weight in the back as well as I never got stuck. But sometimes I couldnt make it up a driveway(about *** degree incline) due to slick ice which 4x4 would have been useful or putting weight in the back but I just parked it at the bottom and walked up.

My ranger now really only has trouble when starting off the line, with weight in the back. but besides that it actually does all right in the snow. I know alot of people who have 4x4 trucks and they say they only use it a couple times a year so i dont know if its worth it to get one. So 4x4 a couple times a year or a wicked looking truck for the whole year! hmmm....

Rangers and F150's are night and day in the winter. My first vehicle was a 96 ranger which was also a 4x4 and it could drive okay in the snow but as for towing my 01 F150 Fx4 could pull out people stuck badly in ditches just in 4x2. You will love your Fx2 if you get one have a picture of it?

i have an 07 fx2 and i would say it depends on how bad the snow is.

if you have 2-4 inches, no problem. 6-10 inches, sure you'll have problems. its still a 2wd.
im sure it would be better than your ranger b/c of the extra weight. just do like most people around me do, put some weight in the bed and go!

i say this, but...., im going to be buying an fx4 here within the month, but b/c of other reasons.

When it does snow here we only get at most 2-5 inches at one time, so its not that bad. With my ranger i only put around 100-150 pounds anymore and you'll see it in the suspension...lol i think if i put weight in an fx2 say 300 400 lbs it should be fine thanks for your help!

Sexy, not a big fan of those nerf bars though haha. I'm surprised it doesn't have the PTM running boards. One of my friends black Fx2 had those chrome nerf bars, are all the blacks ones built with them?

Yeah those running boards are from Ford OEM products, i was surprised when i found this apparently they're really hard to find here, it was a lease return with only 55 000 km (35,000 miles) and its in MINT condition

A/T tires on your FX2 will make some of the biggest difference (or dedicated snow tires if you can afford to keep a spare set). I haven't been stuck in ice or snow in Okla, but we only get 6-8" at a time. We did have a bad ice storm though, and i was able to get around just fine with about 250lbs of sand in the back.

Do you like the running boards or the nerf bars? if you like the PTM running boards tell them you want them installed in your agreement.

Just make sure it has a limited slip and it should do fine on icy roads.

I live in toronto, have an 07 fx2 screw with the 4.6L and an open differential, I bought the truck mid winter and it had the original Pirelli tires on with 60 000 kilometers(not much tread left). I had a couple hundred pounds of tools in the back most of the time and traction was never an issue. the only time traction was an issue was when I would pull into a side street that wasn't plowed where i would proceed to turn off traction control and have some FUN!

But yeah, light snow your fine and snow storm stay home, you cant brake faster with 4 wheel drive...although some people think you can...
