Keypad keyless entry....

I install a door keypad on my 2004 XLT after doing some research around the site on installation and finding the 5 digit code behind the seat everything went well, now after trying entering the code nothing happen, (nor open or closing) I red that the keypad should light up after pressing the first number, well this one is not,
Do I need to reprograme it like you do with the remote fobs?
also, after setting the alarm with the remote, and I press any number on the pad, the alarm goes off....why is that?
I try every possible thing that the manual says, and still nothing happening,
I got the keypad used from another truck and it was working fine... Does it matter that it came from a different security module?
OR? Do I need to step in into a stealership for some reprogramming?
Any input will be apreciated..... Thanks
This is one more mod that I'm trying on my truck, hope it works.
The next one is the push botton start ignition.

First, do you have an aftermarket alarm? If so, the way it is wired can cause some problems.

I did the same install and took mine to the dealer when to get my 5 digit code read. They tried to program t and it would only half work. It would light up but nothing else. The electrical guy at the dealership worked on it and discovered a ground wire that was not hooked up. I think it was at the BCM behind the rear seat. They got me going for $100. The only prblem now is that when I unlock it, it sets off my aftermarket alarm, but that is not a biggie as when it unlocks, it shuts off the alarm.

Thanks for your reply Bluejay....No, no aftermarket alarm here, all stock. Did you get and idea where exactly this ground wire was? and did you find out how a ground wire only affects the keypad and not the rest of the system?

No, not positive where the ground was, but got the idea it was in or on the BCM and assumed that it had to do with the harness to the handle. it's possible that the guy gave me a line of bull and all he did was program it. All I know is, it worked after he had it about 1 1/2 hours and I was happy paying the $100 to have it functioning. Another dealer, where I had to buy the handle as they had it in stock, told me it would never work and didn't want to sell me the part.

Try unhooking the battery for a while . Had to do it on my son inlaws 04 when he put his keypad on. He went to the local dealer and he was told it couldn't be done. Tried the battery and it works great now.
