So I'm running Grapplers 295/70/17 and they are only a few months old with low mileage. Now in about 10-12 months we will be moving from NJ to OK and I'll be towing a large trailer. I was kicking the idea around about going back to stock tires but is it REALLY worth it?
Right now I could possible sell these tires and put some new stock ones on having not lost any investment but is it worth the hassle. Some input from guys who can provide some educated replies is much appreciated.

Alex_4.2L - I have a Gryphon with a 93 tune which I plan on ordering a basic custom tune for lower octane and a tow tune. I was mainly thinking of mileage but is towing 1400 miles worth getting ride of the tires, that's my only thought.
The tires are Load D and the trailer will be a 12x24 (biggest uhaul has to offer) loaded with a 1 bedroom apartment (2 dressers, king bed, couch and recliner are the biggest things going, other items were selling).

Here's my look on it, all you got to loose is mileage and tread.
I'm not an expert on the grapplers, but i hear they wear pretty quickly. I don't think your really going to have a problem with it much just making your trip. As long as they are in the correct load range for what your weight is going to be. I would make sure to have them rotated and all that jazz before you go though. Make sure they are wearing good too.
Other problem is your gonna loose some mileage and engine power with the larger tires. You will gain the power back with the tune most likely, but I wouldn't expect big gains in mileage. Personally if you don't have your stock tires still, I wouldn't mess with getting a set. I don't think the gains you would see would be justifiable to sell yours and get some stock ones. Just my $0.02, but I'm not expert.

I'm sorry you had to live there, hopefully that isn't where you are going back to. Remember if you're in Tulsa and need to get to Stillwater without a road map, just drive north 'til you smell it and then west 'til you step in it!

Actually we are going to the Tulsa area. Small town called Owasso, my daughter is pregnant and the old lady has to be near the first grand child so were making the move.
Keep the tires you have, it wont be worth the hassle and money to get rid of them for stockers for just a 1400 mile trip. Just take it easy, don't drive the truck like you stole it and you will be fine.
I run 325/60/18 Nitto TG on my truck and I am towing our 5000lb TT and hauling anywhere from 400-1200 lbs of ATVs in the bed either every or every other weekend without any issues. But I have also have my truck more set up for towing and hauling than most people do.

-Edge Evo on level 2 with shift points changed to hold gears longer, also increased timing .75 running 89 oct, and some other minor tweeks
-intake and exhaust to help it breath easier
-Tires are load range D (vs the stockers which were C's but alot came with P-metrics)
-I have installed air bags under the rear end
-on board air system to fill and dump the bags as needed depending on the load being towed or in the bed but I have also filled or dumped air while on the move to get a better ride depending on the road conditions, also allows me to fill up tires when on the road if needed
-Electric brake controller (4 axle capable, but have only used on up to a tri axle trailer so far)
-4,6,and 7 pin trailer connections
-WD hitch that I swap between a couple heavy enclosed trailers I pull from time to time
-upgraded to Rancho shocks a few years ago to help with dampening with heavier loads, but I will probably be switching to Bilstein 5100's sometime soon

Yeah, it was all in good fun. I'm very familiar with Owasso, it's a nice city and it's growing pretty fast (nice scenery too if you can get out on the east side). I'm actually around the Broken Arrow area, so we're just to the southeast side of Tulsa. In any case, I'd say just make sure you load the tires up close to the max recommended pressure and hit the road!
I'd much rather tow with LT rated tires then P rated ones. Don't forget money for the toll road's or the Native Americans will scalp you!! I also had a daughter and son in law that lived in Broken Arrow untill the end of last year. Nice area.

I did install new skyjacker nitro shocks in the rear but they are crap and I'm looking at buying some Monroe Rear Shock load adjusting to replace the skyjacker. It really pisses me off since I have only had the skyjacker for 2 months with hardly any miles yet I have replaced the upper bushing 2 times and now the bottom bushing need to be replaced. I'm just feed up with dealing with them.
I will be looking at throwing a brake controller on (searching for DIY tutorial now but it shouldn't be hard). I know air bags would be the best but I don't have the extra to put out considering I have plans on replacing my struts in the next few weeks.
