TRee fell on my truck.. any ideas
Definately get another body shops oppion on the damage. You may come out better by taking the money from the insurance company and then parting out the truck for additional cash. That way you got a huge down payment on a new or used truck. If you get it fixed then you try to sell, you are going to be asked "why are you selling it?". Then you got to explain your situation again and again. Personally if i was to buy the truck, I would rather buy the truck like it is and then get it fixed myself versus buying it after it was repaired. That way I would know that it was repaired correctly. No offense, you are probably a good guy and would not cheat a soul, but when it comes to used vehicles everybody is skeptical. Good luck.
No you don't have to fix it if they pay you. If you want to keep the insurance on that vehicle then yea, the money is to cover your loss!
You should be able to take the money and sell it "as is" or part it out.

Up here the ins co pays whatever the shop estimate of your choice is, and if it's in that magic range for being totaled, you get a check for replacement value.
And I agree with others here, if you get it fixed, get rid of it as soon as possible, I had a sonoma that I hit a deer with, that truck never drove the same again.
Most ins. co's pay out in 3-party checks now, so you pretty much have to get it fixed if you claim it.
get more estimates. dont repair the truck cuz you will be stuck with it, and ppl dont want to buy "repaired" trucks... take the insurance money and sell the truck as is, you can probly get $6K or more for it... maybe come out of this with $20K in your pocket and freedom to do whatever you want with it.
Nationwide is on your side... lmao!

Not sure about your state laws, but you could simply ask your insurance man. In Alabama you can take the money for the repair and put that in your pocket, if it has a lean on it you would still need to pay the loan or pay it off. I thought you said it was paid for! If you can pocket the money and sell the rest of the truck for parts then you may come out on top. If it is totaled you should be able to bargin with the insurance company and try to keep the totaled vehicle. They will simply auction the wreck off. I would try to find the highest estimate posible with OEM parts and tell the insurance company you want the money and the truck. Then you can think about fixing it or selling it off. take you pick!
Well, here is what i did....
I took the insurance check for 12,760.60 and traded my truck in "as is" and they let me keep my aftermarket gibson exhaust and aftermarket 20's. i also wrote a check for 12,500.00 and got myself a 2008 dodge ram 1500 big horn edition with 24,000 miles and the 5.9l hemi in it. i know its not a ford but i didnt have to come out of pocket at all and now have a truck to drive.
