Very upset and annoyed

First I would like to start off by saying that I love my truck and ever since I was a kid I always wanted a truck like the one I have today but I feel like if it's not one thing it's another that needs replacing or repairs. I wanna know if anybody else out there feels the same or has had similar issues or if I'm just worrying for no reason. I have recently replaced the wheel hub and cv joint, because of a grinding/humming sound coming from the front passenger side. After I replaced that I took the truck in to get aligned just to be safe. I went to pick the truck up the check engine was on, but didn't feel, hear, or smell anything wrong. So I took it to the nearest autozone where the rep pulled the code, P0012. Was told that the camshaft timing is off and that it was retarded. I called my dad who explained it better to me. I have almost had it with my truck I feel totally cheated on my truck I know I over paid for it which I'm still paying for and cause I keep having to fix something. Does anybody know what I could to do to fix my problem? Besides selling my truck because I still owe too mch and cause I have invested too much already.

How many miles on the truck and what engine? Any previous repair history on the engine? I googled that code and got this:

http://www.obd-codes.com/p0012

May not be a difficult fix.

OK -- I'm going to try to say this without sounding like a jerk-off. Most vehicles (especially ones purchased used) will have mechanical things that go wrong from time-to-time and will have to be repaired. Not sure how many miles you have on your truck, or what kind of service life it has had, but the reality is that things break and have to be repaired -- it sucks, but that's the reality of life!

The things that you mentioned are not unheard of, and should even be expected as the vehicle ages. Having one or two things go wrong with a used car is reality, and even after you've paid to fix them, the long-term cost of operating an older vehicle is often cheaper than buying new. (Full Disclosure: I purchase my vehicles new because I can afford it and because I've reached the age where "wrenching" on a vehicle all weekend long is no longer considered "fun" to me.)

Finally, if you DID overpay for your vehicle as you stated, you've already learned a valuable lesson that you can take with you through life -- overpaying for a vehicle (or being upside down on a loan) SUCKS and should be avoided at all costs. Save money for at least a decent down payment (or better yet, pay cash for your vehicles!), negotiate the purchase out of common sense and not because you HAVE TO HAVE THAT TRUCK, and be prepared to walk away from the deal if the terms do not work to your benefit.

Good luck......

Yes! to a couple of things.
My hair is almost completely gray and it's thinner.
Another thing, I had always jumped fences by just placing a hand on top and swinging myself over. The other day I approached a fence I needed to cross and thought to myself, 'no way in hell'.

What happened?

I have 70k miles it's an '05 with the 5.4 when I got it 2.5 years ago it had close to 37k miles on it then. I always check the fluid levels and change the oil about every 4 months since I don't put too many miles on it. I understand that things do happen with the years and that the truck will be needing repairs the older it get I understand all that and I do not think you sound like a jerk, more of a father concerned. But trust me some of these repairs have not been so minor as the hub, I have to have the transmission overhauled. So I was already thinking that the camshaft error was gonna be a biggie. I would like to thank y'all for the comments and any help y'all have to offer, and like I stated I was upset and annoyed and I'm pretty sure I came across as whinnny but I was just upset. Hopefully this can get resolved and I'll get out of yall's hairs.

Having the tranny overhauled... well you bought it with 37k on it. who knows what the guy before you did to it. But I have to say that the f150 is one of the most durable and safest trucks I have seen. I had a 06 tundra that after it was wrecked in front of my house we never could get it right. I kept blowing CV boots and slinging grease under the truck. Toyo dealership couldn't figure it and a local shop charged me an arm, leg, and left ***, to replace 3 cv axels and a slew of other work. I have seen rolled f150s where everyone wearing a seat belt walked away. My buddy has an 04 that he uses for his landscaping business and routinely pulled 10,000 or 11,000 lbs which is about 4,000 lbs more that waht that truck could pull. He did it for 2 years and about 60,000 miles before the stock tranny gave out.

Unfortunately there will always be some "bad apples" that will just require more frequent repair and maintanence. I bought mine used last year. It had 36,000 on it. Now I have 58,000 and have had no issues with it.

I hate that you have had troubles. But we live and learn. I have learned many things in life the hard way. It's probably the best way to learn. Maybe next time get a Carfax if you didn't with this one (Iwouldn't buy a used car with out it) and consider an aftermarket warranty.

After working for a rental car company for years an driving all the cars and trucks we had available to us, I wil tell you that the f150s are some of the best and most consistant trucks out there. Chevy's get "squishy" after 10,000 miles, the dodges suck on fuel and feel like tanks, the titans burned through brakes and in my opinion felt cheap inside and again felt like a tank. But everyone has their own prefferences.

Sorry it's a long post. Good luck with it

I think you have a lemon. I drive an 04 f-150 that was a year old with 25,000 miles on it when i bought it. the guy pulled around a goose neck everyday. the next 3 years of the trucks life it stayed in the mud and trails getting sunk and stuck, becasue i was young and dumb and thought it was a toy. The only problem i have had with my truck is front end ball joints at 100,000 miles, and thats pretty normal. i love my f-150 with a passion and will most likly never own a different truck. work out the bugs and enjoy the truck. if not, sell it and buy a chevy and go threw many many more transmissions

Edit: oh and my windows sqeek. but i dont consider it a tragity, just my truck talking to me.

I appreciate all the comments, and no matter how upset I get I am never gonna buy another brand of truck. I really do believe that F150s are good trucks and maybe I did just buy a lemon, but I gotta deal with it and hopefully everything turns out good. I would like to thank Jim aka BlueJay the link helped out alot.
