Very strange. What do you think?

Have 04 Scab 4.6 with 34k and never a lick of trouble. Do have Troyer tunes and moded airbox. Was towing my popup this weekend, went approx 80 miles at around 75mph with the cruise on. Got to the exit and tapped the brake, went down the exit ramp and it died at the bottom while still rolling. Put it in neutral started right up, all gauges looked fine. Went another 15 miles to lake and same thing happened at the gate and also when I was backing the trailer up. Next day drove it to the store and no issues. Monday towed the popup back home and no issues. Didn't use the cruise because I thought it might have been the cause. What do you think? Had a new battery put in two weeks ago but that shouldn't do anything. This truck has never even sputtered on me. I didn't have Troyer do a towing tune since I never tow anything, then I got the popup but it isn't all the heavy and only pull it two or three times a year. Could that have anything to do with it? Thanks for any ideas.

It is my recollection that you are not supposed to tow anything over 2500 lbs on a performance tune. What is the weight of the popup?

Personally, I doubt the tune has anything to do with it. You might want to clean the throttle body and see if you have any codes stored in the PCM.

I'll have to check the weight tonight. Would that make it die?
Wouldn't a dirty throttle body have acted up before by running rough?
Thanks, keep em coming
I'll post the weight tomorrow.

I too doubt it was the tune, I was just throwing that out there. More likely, dirty MAF, dirty throttle body or plugs need changing.

A dirty throttle body would make the IAC work harder to correct the idle. On a long trip, the IAC may have trouble adapting once you slow down. When a vehicle dies and doesn't have any issues restarting, I would suspect a dirty throttle body or a dirty MAF. They make aerosol solutions to both problems. CRC MAF cleaner is what I would use on the MAF and any throttle body cleaner should work. Both components have sensitive electrical components, so you want to use product specific solutions to both potential issues. If you want to try one before the other, I'd clean the throttle body.

Mine would randomly die on deacceleration over the course of 8 months...would start back up and idle rough (almost like it was flooded) then would run fine with no issues....finally threw a code I could pull and it ended up being a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). Changed that, De carbed my throttle body and changed my fuel filter...no issues since. Cost was about $240 with service at Ford.

I wouldn't think it was your tunes...I would think it would be something with the air or fuel....try cleaning your Throttle Body.

I have the 5.4 3V

Thanks for the replies. I think I will drive it for a while and see if it does it again. I wouldn't have thought that the throttle body or maf would be dirty with only 34k on it but if it does it again I will clean them. I am sure there are step by step instructions on this forum. Thanks again

Check and see if your battery connections are tight before diving into anything
