Borla VS Gibson

OK, next upgrade is going to be dual cat-back exhaust. Which is better Gibson or Borla. I had a Borla on my first truck, (it was a Dodge, sorry). And it sounded great, very expensive though. The Gibson seems to be just as good, but a lot cheaper. Any suggestions.

Neither, buy the muffler and tips you want, then have a shop put it together. So much cheaper than a pre-made kit.

I have the Gibson Extreme Dual Exhaust system on my truck for over a year and couldn't be more pleased. I also looked at Borla and was concerned by the price point. If you choose Gibson do go with the stainless steel. It's a better choice...

Go with stainless IF you are "up nawwth" where the roads get covered in corosive crud in the winter. Otherwise, the alluminized steel (much cheaper) is fine. I had an alluminized Gibson cat-back on my '92 F-150 that was as good as new when the truck was destroyed last SEP.

Aluminized will rust out from the inside out as well, where the moisture is. Go stainless where ever you're from.

I have an old school 304 stainless Roush off road exhaust, made by Borla. It's perfect in every aspect.

I've always liked a pre-bent cat-back exhaust kit for the clean welds, stock hangers, and perfect alignment, no matter the cost. I just don't like exhaust shop pieced together installs, they are never well done enough for me.

I agree with stealth. I'd go with magnaflow or borla personally, I had a gibson on my ranger and I've heard them on f150's and they're a little too tingy and rattly for me

Like I said, my Gibson lasted 18 years and was still like new when my truck was wrecked... NO rust at all. Lived in AL and TX the whole time. Spend your money however you like.

I bet there was rust on the inside, like I said, regardless.

Have had my Borla's on for almost 7 years now... and they sound even better than when I first got them! They have held up very well, and should for how much they cost me back when I originally purchased them. Harsh canadian winters haven't touched them yet!

I am thinking I am going with Borla, but after doing going to the big three (Borla, Gibson, Magnaflow) it seems like they are all great products.

The only question I had is that when I spoke to the sales rep she said there was a difference between the build date on the 04. If it was built before June there was different part #. I asked if this was for the Heritage and she said no. Was there something different done after June on the 04?

Anyone have the part #'s if they did the upgrade? I have the 04 Super Crew..

Some 04s have a longer intermediate pipe and some have a shorter one, not 100% sure on the build date though

Went with the Borla, $675 shipped, not too bad. If your truck was built before June 04 the assembly is different than those built after that, just FYI if anyone was doing the same upgrade (part # 140137).

This is not true of my area. Not for all stainless, mantrel bent. The places I called wouldn't even do stainless.
