Billsteins and tires

Long time lurker here that recently inherited a car that I will be running to work so I am now able to start fixing up my truck. It is an 05 Supercrew 4x4 completely stock. I want to get the Billstein 5100 shocks to level it out and lift it a bit. I also would like to get wheels and tires but won't be able to get the wheels for a while. I currently have the stock 17s on it, and would like to put some Nitto Trail Grapplers.

Will they work on my stockers and will the Billsteins lift it up enough for them to fit? Also when I'm ready to get wheels I'd like to get 17s just so that the Nittos I will be buying will fit them. I'd like to wait til I can afford the whole package at once but my current tires are bald so I need to get new rubber ASAP. Any advice, or pros and cons of this setup or any of my other mods listed below.

I am still in the planning stages but ready to make start ordering stuff in the next day or two. Some things I'm planning on doing in no particular order.
1. DWV mod.
2. LED lights interior, cargo, and plate lights.
3. Paint the cowl. (maybe all the plastic)
4. Bull Bar/Brush guard not sure which yet.
5. Lights behind the grill.
6. Dual Exhaust
7. Gryphon
8. !!Rotors and Brakes!!

Thanks for any help you all could give, and this forum is awesome!

You could go with a 295/70/17 Nitto Trail Grappler on the stock wheels with out any problems, other than maybe some very minor rubbing at/close to full steering lock. And the 295's with also work and look good with the 5100's on the 2" setting.

Post some pics once you get the level and tires installed!

I agree with PHS79 295/70/17s on stock wheels look great. I have 2 1/2" leveling kit and the 295 Terras on my truck now.

I like it! Will definitely be happy with those results. What leveling kit do you have?

You will be fine running the 295/70/17 tires on just a 2" level with your bilsteins. That size tire is about a 33 so you will be fine with your your stock wheels. I'd stay with an aftermarket wheel w/o any negative offset just to be on the safe side. I have the 295/70/18 Trail Grapplers on stock wheels & I do not rub.

If you are interested, I have a set (4) 5100 Bilsteins that I took off my truck. They have about 2000 Mi on them and the front are adjustable to 0" or 2" lift. All four are in like new condition $250 + Shipping to the lower 48. If interested PM me for more info. I took them off because of the VERY rough roads here in Maine.

You will get a little bit rougher ride with the bilsteins but they are worth it as the truck handled better with them. I have the bilsteins and my tires are E rated. Keep your tire pressue not too high and you will be fine & like the Bilsteins. $250.00 sounds like a good deal to me.

Rowe, sound's like you have a pretty good plan. I agree on the 295x70x17 tires. They will fit easily on the stock wheels on a leveled 4x4, they give you plenty of room in the front with no rubbing. Nitto makes that size in a terra and trail grappler. Toyo makes it in a MT which I'm running on a 17x9 wheel. I've run 32,33,34 and 35 inch tires on my truck and the 295x70's seem to be the best fit. They are 33.5x12x17 but the large lugs on the trail grapplers and the Toyo MT's make those versions look a lot larger. Good luck with your decision.

Rowe,
That is a 2 1/2" auto spring spacer on the front and 1 1/2" auto spring add a leaf on the rear. My truck have a really heavy rake to the back with just the front spacer so I added the rears.
On a side note I am ordering a set of the 295/70/18s like truckncrew04 has this morning, I hope mine turns out as good as his did.

a word of caution on buying tires for your stock 17 inch rims, then going to try and swap out to aftermarked rims. when i was buying rims i found out that some 17 after market rims wont fit on the f150's Like KMC thier diesel rims in 17 wont clear the rotors so they say. I had to go to 18 inch rims to get the rim that i wanted. just keep this in mind for later

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, I do appreciate it!

Thanks to the forum I have tackled the fuel filter yeserday, fixed my power windows, did the brakes and have a long list of stuff to do eventually. Now I see where all the posts about lightening the wallet come from. LOL!
