Is there a fuse for 4x4?

I am about to get a 05 fx4 and this will be my first 4x4 truck. Its coming from a co-worker...he is getting a new one and I am getting his (fo free:santa The 4x4 doesn't come on when you turn the **** and mechanic had told him it is probably a fuse. We never really got it looked at becasue the 4x4 is not used much. So is there simply a fuse for it...could that really be it? All we know is when he turned the **** to 4 lo or hi it does nothing.

Ok finally got the truck a few days ago and looked in the manual....I checked all the inside fuses that said 4x4 anything and they all looked good. I haven't checked the ones under the hood yet but it looks like there is two of them. If those are not bad...does any one have any idea what is up with the 4x4 or what else I can check? If I turn the **** in the truck sometimes for a fraction of a second the 4x4 lights pops on and off. But only for a split second and only of I am ramping the **** back and forth on and off. Tried neutral foot on the brake as well as parked. The lights come on when I start the truck and then go off like normal. The 4x4 didnt get used very much in this truck...just one day the other owner tried it and it was dead.

Try tapping on the transfer case motor on the back on the transfer case. Very common problem. The search function is a really handy tool. Good luck.

my bet is you have the old iwe solenoid for the 4x4. check behind the battery on the firewall. if it has a little hood or roof above it you are ok. if not water can get on it, thats bad. you are not ok. cheap fix to replace now instead of hubs later.
