Chrome Bumpers....
So a buddy and myself were talking about blacking out my truck but there is a small glitch we were talking about. Is it possible to paint over chrome bumpers?
yes but you need to prep the surface, if you try painting it like it is now the paint won's stick because the surface is to smooth. You'll need to scuff it up so it has texture to stick to. then of course use a few coats of primer, fill any low spots, sand with a fine grit sand paper to smooth it all out, wipe it clean with some kind of degreaser. then paint it using light even coats. might want to sand with an even finer grit after paint to get rid of any runs, like a 1,500-2,000 grit, wet sanding so you dont take too much paint off. Next clear coat it if you want, then wait 2 or 3 days for it to dry and use a rubbing compound to buff out any bumps or imperfections to shine it up.
I am also going to do my bumpers its the last piece of the truck that is not black. I was thinking of doing then with a spray on bed lining. I am not sure of the prep work involved though, donno if I still need to prime or etch prime before hand. I was thinking of just using an 80 grit and them just spraying them.

Powder coating would be best since it matches black perfect.
But to paint chrome bumpers, you need them sand blasted complete to bare steel, etching primer, lots of sanding work and possibly filler work, more sanding after filler work, paint, clear coat, then cure time, and no waxing for a couple weeks. Try to drive as less as possible until the paint is completely cured.
Most paint shops will do it for $300 a set of bumpers if you uninstall and bring them in.
