Opinions on my new proposed setup

Alright guys, so I'm planning on the following within the next two months before I head back home to Vegas for the summer. I currently live in orange county and bought my truck in December of 2008, a brand new black fx4 supercrew which just rolled 21000 miles. When I first bought the truck I put on an afe stage II intake and edge evolution tuner and recently added some 35x12.5/18 mud grapplers, hell bent steel leveling kit (2.5"), kmc xd diesels and a magnaflow muffler exit right before the rear passenger tire. The mod bug has gotten the best of me and I plan the following:

1 5/8" OBX Longtube Headers
94106 magnaflow high flow cats
magnaflow x pipe
2 dynomax bullets

The exhaust will be topped off with 4x14" tips 45 put the back

I will also be installing the ffdynamics extreme cyclone Electric fan kit with 7000cfm which will help in the Vegas heat, it's a dual 16" setup

25% underdrive pulleys with gatorback belt
- I was thinking troyers, but unsure right now, help me out guys!

after these mods I will be converting to an 87 gryphon performance tune to tie it all together for the most gains and efficiency

I have an 08 fx4 5.4 v8 supercrew currently averaging 15mpg, hoping to get 20+ on the highway! Mind me these upgrades are more for a great sounding truck that performs on and off the road than for mileage, I'm a college student and will be keeping this beast in the family for a long time to come!

Please give me your input! Sorry if I'm in the wrong section as it covered a few

thanks guys!

Why would he do the tunes first? Then he would have to pay to get them redone after his mods?

Any thoughts on an intake?

i understand the tunes take a while but would it be necessary to get them that early, i wouldnt be able to take advantage of my tunes until everything is tied together, and even yet i might have to change some things in my setup

in regards to an intake the gotts mod is supposed to be the best. banks ram air is pretty good for keeping under the hood temperatures down, i personally like the S&B kit along with the volant kit, both can have scoops added for more power and mileage, according to their claims

The exhaust mods do not require custom tunes, neither do the e-fans. You can have your idle speed bumped up to compensate for the lower altenator speed with the pullies, but instead of having your tunes written for the pullies, just don't get them, they are a waste of money.

The best bang for your buck are the big 3 upgrades, intake, exhaust, and custom tunes. Those 3 will give you the most power for the money spent, and more power means the engine will not work as hard so you will get a slight mileage improvement. The next step to improve mileage is e-fans and an electric water pump, they do not add hp, they free up power that is already there by not using the engine to drive them.

Get your custom tunes ordered first, then while your waiting for them do your exhaust mods and throw on your e-fans. wait on the electric water pump until you see if your mileage is good enough, the e-pumps are about 5 bills new, they do offer a noticeable gain in power and mileage, but they are not cheap. If these mods do not get you the mileage you want, well get over it. Afterall its a 3 ton truck, its not gonna get 40 mpg like a prius.

You don't. If you have a gryphon programmer then you load the tunes from PHP into the gryphon then you plug the gryphon into your truck and download the tune you want to use into your truck. When you order your tunes there is a questionaire you have to fill out listing all your mods and what you expect to get out of them, like better mileage, more power, towing, etc.

go ahead and get your custom tune for all the mods that are coming. run one of the canned tunes up until you install the parts. thats what i meant. should have made myself more clear.

Hello.

Sorry - longtubes + hi-flows + x-pipe + duals will require a custom tune correction.

(O2 transport delay as a direct result of sensor relocation, plus the vast increase in scavenging may have some tuning implications as well - it may need to be instrumented to be certain.)

OP - the 'ffdynamics' fans are total junk - the ratings are very overblown. There is absolutely no way those fans are 7,000 cfm - in all likelihood they are not even half that when put into actual use under load against a rad. Sorry.

You will be risking overheats unless you install tru hi-performance fans from a company like Spal, Derale Tornado, Be-Cool, etc... Stay away form Procomp fans as well - also junk.

As noted canned Evo + an AFE is not a good combo.

Finally - with fans, electric water pump, etc as additional loads, plus low-speed 'bogging', where load is high and alt output is low, you may want to consider an alternator upgrade. Running a hi-zoot audio system? If so, this will present additional strain on a stock 110A alternator.

So would 87 performance, 89 canned and 91 canned be okay
with an emphasis on performance/mileage custom for the 87

or trans, 87 performance custom and 91 canned

whooaaaa i have no idea what you just said. i would buy your custom tune for all of the parts you have listed. i believe you could do two custom tunes, 1 87 economy, 1 91 performance. you will get your programmer back first thing. put the programmer in and run a canned tune, level 2 towing, up UNTIL you install all the parts. then switch over to one of the custom tunes, either 91 performance or 87 economy. i guess you could do 91 economy too? thats just what i would do to keep from harming your engine during downtime from sending off your programmer. thats just my two cents.
