Tailgate squeak?

Anyone else have a really annoying squeaking coming from the tailgate? I have heard this since I bought the truck. I can only hear it when the windows are down too, and I hate it!

Yup, had it intermittently since new. I put some grease on the hinges and the posts at the top that the tailgate closes against..it seems to have worked. Those posts have a plastic sleeve over them and that is where I think the noise was originating. Try packing some grease in, on, around and under that plastic sleeve.

My '06 tailgate was driving me crazy last summer when I had the windows down. I put some grease on it and still noticed a squeak. After further inspection I realized when I closed it, it was sticking out a little further on the passenger side, like it wasn't latching completely. It only did that if I closed it with one hand and held it in the middle. I closed it a little harder with more pressure on the passenger side and I noticed it closed completely and the squeak was gone. Probably a bit out of alignment... I just make a note to make sure it closes completely now.

WD40 is good for temporary use, but any good grease would be the proper lubrication. Actually I have had the bed squeak, but if you just rotate the plastic sleeve on the latch post about 90-degrees and close the tailgate the squeak will stop.
