The tailgate bars do mount in that space between the bumper and the Tailgate.

On the right side there is this stupid and seemingly necessary bump. It will cause a slight problem. I solved it by moving on of the mounting brackets over a few inches so it cleared and then used a small washer to space it out to the flex wouldn't be as great. Right below where I have it mounted there is a small lip that goes across the entire width of the bed. I used this to keep the bar level all the way across. It mounts using 3M adhesive and it's holding perfectly so far.

I went out and took the tailgate off real quick to show what I'm talking about. Here's a few pics:

Bracket without spacer(used for the 4 on the left side of the bump):

If you want to know anything else about it or the mounting process just let me know.

You might have to cut the pin off of the tailgate too.

I didn't cut anything off the Tailgate. Where is this pin at?

Not all tailgates had them, I've only seen the pin on the 5.5' beds.

I have seen some that have clear and red lights alternating. The clear light up when in reverse and are bright. Very useful in backing up with tinted rear window - and in my case a fiberglass topper.

Also my truck has a post in the tailgate that travels in the open oval area shown in your 2nd photo.

OK I see what you did now, took me a few reads to figure it out haha. I was thinking because of that space in the gap between the bumper and the tailgate would cause the light bar to be mounted to high but it looks good on your truck

How do these Recon LED strips power up? Where is the wire fed to, a certain tail lamp? Any wire splicing involved?

They come with a 4-pin trailer plug attached to the wiring and a separate white wire for reverse that you has to be spliced either into a tail light on one side or into trailer wiring. I cut that off and tapped it directly into the 7-pin connector wire harness. I did it because I tow a trailer frequently and it's just easier and it looks better.

Since I have the trailer tow package with 7/4-pin connection the reverse lights are in the wire harness going to the connectors under the bumper. If you don't have the trailer tow package you will have to run it up behind a tail light and tap into one of those.

Thats what I was afraid of. I'm not very confident in my automotive wiring capabilities, but I do have the tow pkg so I could practice with that if I ever decide to purchase one. Thanks.
