Just FWIW, I have been quoted for a similar service on my '04 5.4L...

Replace spark plugs with no additional cost on any breaking.
$250.00

Transmission oil change with new filter.
Transfer case oil change.
Oil change with filter
Add to that...
Front and rear differential fluid change.
All using Royal Purple full synthetic products.
$400.00

Fuel system cleanse from the throttle body to the injectors with new fuel filter.
Wynns Xtend service with filter, $100.00

Radiator flush.
$80.00

Check brakes.
Tire rotation
Rotation $20.00, check brakes gratis with oil change service.

Cabin air filter replacement.
Make them give you the old filter, I DARE them!

Service the battery.
Again, gratis with oil change service.

Air filter
In my case, clean & oil K&N filter. $10.00

Grand Total: $ 1084.
Grand total $860.00

Depending on the market you are in it is close, but for what they are asking, they really ought to be using full synthetics...

FWIW, if you are out of factory warranty, why take it to the dealership? Dealerships are known to heavily overcharge for customer paid service...

Hey Wacki...

Might be a good time to learn how to do some of this stuff yerself - seeing as yer local dealer likes to bend folks over. Most of this stuff is eminently doable by the home DIY'er weekend wrench.

dealer tried to screw me over $200 something for a simple alignment trie rotation and balancing, i could only imgaine what the cheap-dressed up tune up runs for....took it to a semi rig tire shop and got the service done for $65, and mgd fan is rite, look up the part buy it at napa and install it yourself, afterall when you take your truck in for service or a repair, thats where they get their parts "geniune motorcraft parts" from

Guess I got screwed then today after reading all of these posts.

I am setting a 60K, and decided to do the maintenance...my way. Hell, I plan to drive the truck into the ground, so going the extra mile in service is OK in my book...especially when I was always doing it myself. I have towed more over the years than I thought I would, and there were some other issues that needed attention. Here was the list:

- oil change / filter
- trans flush
- front / rear diff oil change
- T-case service
- U-joint on T-case bad (been bad for awhile)
- tire balance / rotation
- front alignment (I just replaced a bad outer tie rod end)
- cleaned and oiled my Airaid Jr for me
- spark plug change
- brake fluid flush
- power steering flush
- fuel system cleaning
- wiper cowling fixed again (no charge, did it before under warranty)
- new wiper blades...they did charge for them
- straightened a bent heat shield around the front cat (yeah, I remember doing that one)
- new battery with an "8 year warranty"?...this was new to me, but free up to five years, then prorated to 8.
- new #5 coil (they found a crack in one...was shown to me when I picked it up and looked "old" and regit)
- Serpentine belt (some minor fray on one edge...why not?)
- lastly, a coolant flush

Total = $1532

Now, I know what you are thinking...why not do most of that yourself. I have a fairly busy job right now, and the newborn is taking a lot of our time = just plain tired all the time. I have done most of my maintenance on previous vehicles without much trouble, but this time I said "let them do it this time". Saved a lot of dough over the years, but just could not get the time to do all of that list. Must say, it feels like new again. At least I did my own brake job at 54K.

Two observations:
1) As soon as I said "change the plugs", Chris at Longmont Ford had a sample broken plug to show me. I said that I was well aware, even before you, that these plugs are problematic...that's why I changed them at 30K, too. I tried to explain this plug problem to the last guy at 30K...he did not even know what I was talking about, so I did them myself. A lot can change in 30K.
2) I explained that I had a tuner, leveling kit, AAL, and catback. Chris thought that was cool? The last time I went in for service at 30K (only did a tranny flush after a few months of heavy towing), the service writer read me "The Riot Act" for those mods...which I didn't appreciate. I don't like being dishonest with people (even dealerships), so I came clean with the mods...especially the tuner. I think this dealership is changing their attitude toward modifications by the customer. There could be a number of reasons for that.

So...do ya'll think I got screwed for that list? Actually, I doesn't matter, it was good for me.

depends. some of those things take time which = lots of labor, and your list is a bit more extensive.

you went into the deal expecting to spend some money. I would have done it myself...but I'm also a tightwad. Know what you mean about the kiddo though man. My twins are only 18 months right now and that 1st year was crazy



glad you have a cool Dealership. The one where I bought my 2006 F-150 gave me riot act as well over the Leveling Kit I installed. Guy was wanting to make a OASIS entry about the spacer...I told him nevermind and never went back. I'll be damned if I'd let some guy kill my warranty

alrite im clueless wuts the riot act?? not too long ago i took the truck back because it had a squeaking window when pulled up or down..result?? i had a techinician and 3 of the service advisors- 4 guys at my pass rear window scratching at the edge sayin i should have never tinted my windows, and the best part about that was when i gave em the cold look and said that was privacy glass...they put lubricant on the seals for free....just recently tinted my windows and that "squeaking problem" went away for sure

I was only there to get my Drivers master window switch repaired...pretty sure the blower and the leveling kit didn't have any effect on it...but he was certainly wishing it did

So how does one clean and oil an AirRaid Jr ? It's just a plastic tube ?

For reference I just paid almost exactly that for the same level of work here in Los Angeles at Galpin Ford, including a brand new throttle body. My 2004 has 126K on it. As much as all the little things **** me off like everyone else, not including warranty work if I divide 126,000 miles into my total maintenance/replacement dollars spent since the truck was new, it may be one of the lowest operating costs of any vehicle I've ever owned.

At the beginning, though a Ford lover through and through, I was kind of anti-new F150 with all of the warranty issues like crappy A/C, chattering rear end, squeaky power rear window and the other basic issues. Based on what I've read over the years here, some of you have had more severe problems so I will consider myself lucky. A new truck is likely in the works for the end of the year but i don't really care for the look of the new F150......here we go again.

I wonder if the dealer will fill in the recess around the top of the wheelwells and get rid of the Lincoln tailgate and taillights as part of a new truck deal? OK I guess not but since my 2004 is still tight as a drum and quiet as a mouse, I'm thinking F150 again. I will have a 7 year/100K premium Ford warranty on anything else I do for sure though.

I am also in the Edmonton area. I have called around to the 8 or 9 dealers here for quotes on things from plug changes, cutting a second key to rear diff clutch pack changes and they varied by up to 70%. Something as simple as cutting a second key was 120 bucks from one dealer to 235 bucks for another ford dealer. All these dealers are in a 25 mile radius. You HAVE to call around till you find a reasonably priced one who you can trust not to pad the bill. The discrepancey in pricing from one Ford dealer to the next is something I will never understand!!!

The Airaid Jr. kit consists of the intake tube and a dropin filter element similar to a K&N. The filter is what was cleaned.

The guy at 30K said something like voiding the warranty (reporting the mods). I said, "If you do that, I'll never buy another Ford again, even though the wife wants a new Fusion. That's an argument that I now I can win with the wife." He didn't say much more about the warranty. I'll come clean with the mods, but at least show me later that the mod caused the breakdown...I'll pay up.
