Passenger door rattle

I have a Supercab and there is this rattling ticking noise coming from the front passenger door near the mirror and its driving me insane. It comes and goes, but lately it just stays... and its really getting to my nerves. My tires and exhaust cant tone it out even, so before I rip the door panel off, i'll ask for advice. Has anyone else had such an issue with the front passenger door? This is driving me crazy, has been for the past 2 months. Within the week I will be pulling the door panel off to hunt it down but until then has anyone else had this issue? What was the fix?

Try some silicone spray around all the weatherstripping and anywhere plastic, rubber, or metal contact on that door. That fixed a similar problem for me.

If that doesn't work, try some troubleshooting, like seeing if the noise occurs when the window is up or down, to narrow it down.

Though I don't have a super cab, my passenger door was also rattling. The dealer fixed it by putting silicone (like the clear caulking you'd use around a shower) around the edges of the inside panel and putting the door back together. No more noise. I'm guessing they let it harden a bit before putting the inside back on so it wouldn't make a mess.

I'm thinking of doing the same to the drivers side just to prevent any future noise.

Thanks, It does it only with the window up. Its a plastic on metal type of sound.

Yep. Plastic on metal. That's exactly the sound. I'm sure it's the same exact thing. Try it, it works and my door is completely silent now. I think what happens is the plastic bends or warps slightly and isn't snug against the metal and starts vibrating when you go over bumps. The silicone in between isolates the two.

I have a similair noise but it is a high pitch squeek on the passenger door. The only thing I can figure out is when I push against the door it stops, once I let go it starts again...2008_XL, when I take the door panel off, where exactly am I applying the silicone? Thanks for the help, it is on my last nerve as well!!

You apply the silicone around the sides and bottom edge where the plastic and metal meet. If you're looking at the plastic inner door panel from the front, you'd apply silicone to the back side where the plastic and the metal of the door touch. Apply the silicone to the plastic and let it dry slightly. Then put the door back together. Let me know if that makes sense. If not, feel free to PM me if you'd like.

This is a great fix and super easy.
