Spark Plugs/used 2004/no service history/100k+ miles=WIN
I wanted to share my story. I recently bought my first 4x4. A 2004 S-crew. I needed a good family beach and fishing truck, so I pulled the trigger and bought one. She is at 100k+, and as a general rule of thumb, I've always change the plugs on a used car.
After reading about the SP horror stories on the 2004 here, I researched her service history. Thanks to info I got from Stealth, I got an Oasis report and was pretty horrified to find that there was not service history on my truck. I ran a carfax to see if something came up on her, and she is a clean truck. There was an extended service plan purchased for her in 2007, but no luck on any records.
I figured, screw it. Let's break some plugs.
I bought the Lisle 65600, some carb cleaner, the plugs, and a 6 pack of beer.
At 9:30 pm, I went after my first plug, an it came out with out any problem, and clean as well. Under closer inspection, I realized that the plugs were the sp507's. Apparently, the plugs had been changed! Due to the cleanliness of the plug, I considered putting it back in and returning everything, but I figured I needed to see each plug, and since I was already that far in, may as well just change it out. Off to work I went and pulled each plug, inspected, and replaced. Two hours later, all the plugs were changed in the truck.
I wish I could say that I did something special in changing the plugs, but the fact of the matter is the previous owner obviously had the presence of mind to take care of the problem.
Thankfully, I didn't need the broken plug remover and can return it unused and get my $108.00 back and buy some new o2 sensors!!!

Thanks. I was definitely relieved to see the sp507's. I just took back the Lisle and drove next door for a 3" pvc pipe and flexible coupling...Yeah, you all know what's next!
