I can't get in there to look right now cause the bumper has the tailgate jammed shut and the tonneau is also therefore 'locked.' You can see where the tailgate is slightly raised on the right side - again suggesting more damage could be on the inside. And I do have a 'bedrug' - actually a rubber bed mat. I would not have thought to look under there -nor have I looked near the cab. I didn't think it was that hard a hit, but it's certainly worth checking. Thanks!
Sorry to hear it. I've been rear ended once in one of my previous trucks and twice in cars. Not fun. Glad to hear you're OK.

A good body shop guy will spot all those bumps and bows. Because you were hit, you can choose who will do the repair and the other persons insurance will have to pay the tab. Don't let them bull you into taking the truck to their adjuster because it is drivable. Get it over to a body shop you can trust and have them start taking it apart and looking at it, and the other adjuster can meet with your body shop guy. Otherwise, you may not get your truck repaired to your satisfaction, and you have - well you had - a nice looking rig.

The other driver is at fault so it will be at the OPs convenience. Their appraiser should be required to meet him at a place of his choosing. They are generally very legit, too, as it's their job. When I was hit the other guy's insurance appraiser met me at my job to check it out. He was the one that pointed out the small chip in the bed that required the entire respray. He was also the one that offered to replace the FX4 decals. I guess it depends on the person you get, but I don't think he will have any problems.

I definitely agree with picking your own body shop, though. That's a must. Keep us updated, man.

Fortunately I have a body shop that's nearly walking distance from the house and I know the people that own it well. I help check on the building when they're away on vacation. They worked on my truck Christmas of 08 when I was the one who rear ended another, so I trust them implicitly. The guy who hit me is insured with State Farm and the shop is one of their 'pre-approved' shops, so there should be no adjuster.

Started the claims process today (Mon 22nd) by calling his agent. Have to wait now for their claims people to talk to their client and then call me. At that point I should be able to just schedule it into the body shop and wait for the repairs. Will update as we go...

Sorry

Sorry to hear that. I got rear ended at the McDonalds drive thru in my Rodeo. When I looked in the rear view mirror to see WTF, I saw the guy that hit me wiping drool off his chin as he was staring at the damn menu sign; didn't even know he hit me until I put it in 4low and bounced his head on his head rest because my reece hitch was stuck in his front end.

Seriously glad your OK.

Now that you mention it, I never did look to see how badly his van was hurt. We pulled off the road into a parking lot and parked side by side. I never went around to the front of his vehicle.

Are you sure it wasnt a TOYota with a stuck accelorator????

---But Seriously---

I'm sorry to hear about the accident, at least you are making it out with only minor injury... Hope the guy had insurance... it happens alot around here where some folks don't, even though in TX liability insurance is required by law...

I got tagged a few years back too, looked worse than it was, but I was not a happy camper, this guy was on his way out of the parking lot of a liquor store AND on the cell phone....

Toolbox actually helped stabilize the bed somewhat... didn't touch the cab at all... still over 3400 worth of damage... was fixed and back on the road in no time...

Good Luck with repairs, or maybe even an aftermarket rear bumper

Wow, sounds like a carbon copy of what happened to me. I hope you get a rental, it'll take ~2 weeks (prolly shorter, my body shop was a PITA to deal with).

oh yeah, CHECK THAT FRAME!

Thanks guys. I spoke to the insurance claims folks today and got approval to take her in to the body shop for them to do the estimate and order parts. And yes, they approved a mini-van rental for me for the time the truck is in the shop. So it looks like we'll have a happy ending - pending any unseen damage, and yes, will check the frame.

Fortunately his insurance is valid. I was hit a few years ago here in LA (requires insurance) by a driver from TX (also requires insurance). The guy was driving a rental, showed a form that purported to be insurance so officer let him go. Turned out he had no insurance. I had my vehicle repaired by my insurer and when they went after the guy he had no insurance, no job and didn't even have the same last name as the mother or father he was living with(?) and they had no insurance. Still neither LA, or TX took any action against him. So much for laws that require insurance!

Well the adjuster saw the truck today and wrote me a check for $1745 - not including cost to (if necessary) replace the stripes on the tailgate and replace the rear view license plate mounted camera - about another $300.

So it's off to the body shop Monday and then wait and see if they find anything else that can't be seen right now.

Stay tuned...
