Ive been thinking of putting my cb unit in my truck but I dont want to drill any holes to mount it.
Ive just got a magnet mount antenna. Its a cheap setup but I got the cb for free out of a car a friend picked up to scrap and bought a new antenna. I havent had it in anything since '03.

Are the guys putting it in the pocket on the top of the dash drilling holes or just using something like double sided tape?

So in my truck I was lookign to see where I could mount a cb radio. I thought about building something to go into the little cubby under the pull out cup olders and then mount the cb radio on that, then I don't have to put holes in my dash board. I was wonder if anybody else had done this and was wondering if it worked.

You guys can get the best deals at any local truck stop such as TA or a Pilot.

For example this past weekend the local TA had cobra 29 for $69 bucks. Take it to a local CB shop (normally right by the truck stop or in the parking lot some where) and get it peeked and tuned. Most charge around $20-$45 bucks and they would double your output. You can also get some toys added to the radio (talkback and such).

Train Horn @ 1, 12 Volts Receptacles @ 1, camera hard drive @ 1, 12 pairs off road light @ 6 and I just added 2 more for the e-fans.

My truck is equipped with 2 optima batteries and 275 amp alternator.

Here is my Cobra 29 LTD mounted in front of my siren box. I peaked and tuned it myself and put in a modulation kit that has me talking very well. Since the speaker is blocked alot by the siren box, I have an external speaker mounted in the center where the heater ducts come out.

the plastic bag is a WalMart bag hanging off the cup holder, I use it for a trash bag.

Here is a pic of the mount that I made out of flat stock. It is mounted just behind the first tie down:

Here is the K40 fiberglass antenna. It is a 5 foot model:

I went with a 5 foot so that more than half of the antenna would be above the cab. I also went this far back so that the cab wouldn't interfere with the radiation of the signal. It works very well for me. Most days I can talk at least 20 miles across fairly flat ground.

I wanted to put it somewhere out of the way. Yes, it can get difficult to change channels driving down the road but I mostly leave it on channel 19. My truck is a regular cab by the way!

I'm still not 100% done with it. I still want to add a PA speaker. How can you boost your output strength? I can hear all day long, but I can't transmit very far.

Good looking trucks by the way!

No current pics as I am in process of redoing mine after repeated frustration with the mount...

System is...

Radio: Realistic TRC-465 AM/SSB CB Radio circa 1990.
Radio Mount: Hook & Loop tape to the bottom of the dashboard.
Coax: RG8X.
Mount: Monster Stud through the top dead center of the toolbox.
Antenna: Realistic 102" Stainless Steel Whip with Hustler Stainless Steel barrel spring.

Problems encountered: Heat melts the adhesive of the hook & loop tape.
Sheet Metal of the Delta toolbox too thin to support the stresses a 102" whip puts on it.

Solutions.
Still investigating mounting options. Would like to mount in dash somehow. But this particular radio has side input for the mic... Need to work with the radio shop guys to figure this one out.

Adding 1/8" plate reinforcement to the top side of the toolbox. This should provide PLENTY of support for the 102" whip...

Sure such a tall whip beats the snot out of the trees. So what?

Buy a better radio and have it tweaked or tuned or step up to a fat boy:

Add a double plate, one inside toolbox and one outside then bolt them together, drill your hole for the whip and mount.
