2005 F150 Lariat stuck in park

I have a 2005 F150 with a console shifter and I cannot get it out of park. Brake light are fine from what I can see in the mirror. How can I bypass the switch at least to get to the parts house for parts?

Open the console lid and pry the cupholder trim/assembly off the console. The manual release lever is to the left of the shifter.

sit in the truck with the windows up, radio off, key in the "on" position but motor off.

hold you head near the steering column and push down on the brake pedal.

you should hear a click...that will be the brake-park solenoid shifting to unlock the gear selector.

press & release the brake pedal several times...each time you press or release the pedal, you should hear a small click/thunk.

if you don't hear that noise, there is an issue with that solenoid...then you need to do what quintin mentioned. in your owners manual it specifically spells out how to over-ride the brake-shifter lockout. even has a neat little picture

IIRC the shift interlock works on a different switch internall to the BOO switch then the brake lights. So just because you have brake lights does not mean the interlock is at fault.

I'm not sure if this would be related as they aren't the same truck BUT I just got a recall for my wifes 07 Explorer Sport Trax last week. I took the little truck in to ford yesterday and they replaced the computer board for the middle console shifter. The issue is sometimes it won't let you put it into park and remove the key OR take it out of park to drive/reverse.

I found that a pressed it. felt a little release but still won't go into gear. I jacked the back of the truck up and moved the wheels back and forth and that didn't work. Any other ideas? Thanks

Yes I was but after starting over, I see that when I step on the brake, the button goes down by itself but It still won't come out of park. Thinking linkage now maybe but not sure where to start.
