Tire Size Help

I just ordered a 2" AS leveling kit for my 07 4wd STX. It currently has the stock 17" rims on it. What is the largest size tire i can fit without rubbing? 33, 35, ??

The guys at 4wheel parts say 285/70/17 is the max due to the width of my rim. Is that accurate or can i go bigger? I see other people on here running up to 35's on stock rims.

Any help would be great. Thanks

This has been answered about a million times. Using the OEM wheels, you can fit a 35x12.50 but they will rub the control arms slightly at full steering lock. If you want no rubbing at all go with something slightly smaller.

My '07 STX has a 2" leveling kit installed and I'm running Toyo Open Country MTs 34x11.50 R17s... I have AMP Bitterroot 17x8.5 wheels with 4.53 inches of BS... They are 34.1 inches tall and 11.6 inches wide... No rubbing and no trimming required...

Thats a damn good looking truck. I'm about to buy some Toyo MT's but I think I might go with some 18" Rockstar wheels. The tires I'm looking at are 275/70R18 which are 36.4". I havent seen any Toyos in 34x11.50's. Where did you purchase your rims and tires?

275/70R18's are only 33.2"s.

I live in the Oregon Cascades. In the Pacific Northwest there is a major tire store named Les Schwab, they are also on line. I purchased my tires and wheel though them.

Wow wtf? I actually meant to type 33.6 as the site said. Thanks for catching that. I have a 2.5 AS kit so I think I will be good between 33-34. If 35's arent too expensive, I might entertain the possibilty of going that direction. I just dont want any hang ups with the wheel turned in any direction which is why I'm looking to go between 33-34. Anyway, thanks.

You will be fine running a 35". With this you will have to keep stock wheel, or another wheel with very similar to stock wheel specs. If not you will have major issues with fenderwell rubbing. With a stock or stock speclike wheel, you will still rub at full lock, but it's not terrible.

With a 33 you should be perfectly fine with any aftermarket wheel choice, and should have no rubbing issues.

Maybe that will help in your decision.

Ahhh, so I could keep my stock 20's instead of going with aftermarket 18's? I was under the impression that the BS was way too much with the stock wheels. If I could keep the stock 20's and go with 35's that would be cheaper. I'm in the line ofthinking that less Backspacing= the wheels being pushed further out which = no rubbing. Amirite?

Well I'm not sure, with your stock wheels they should sit pretty far in compared to most aftermarket wheels. Usually an aftermarket wheel pushes the tire out. With this means when the tire turns its more likely to rub than when it is pulled into the fenderwell.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure as far as the stock wheel to aftermarket wheel I'm correct, my reasoning may be off. I know wandell could help me out on that one.
