Searched till blue/04 F150 with Edge#2. LOST OD TODAY ONLY. PLEASE HELP

I did use the search first to no avail, I am just a stiff that uses my truck daily. LOVE this ford. 04 running the edge in #2. Never a problem until today, when it kicked into OD it hit a little hard and then the revs, no gear. slowed down and back in 3, smooth as silk. NO OD only. Bright red fluid, no burn smell at all. All other gears are great, drives great with OD off. 162K on this truck. Please tell me she will be ok, not the time for a big cash outlay.

Unloaded the edge to stock, same deal. Help Please

Someone that knows more than I do about transmissions needs to help, but I don't think you will like what they have to say.

But its only the OD, never gave any symtoms at all, I only drove her to church and back, really. When I turn it off it drives like a ford.

ok lets just think about worst case scenario.. you need a new transmission and you're short on cash. Find a junk yard or someone with a spare F150 tranny. Buy it for $200 and install it yourself in a weekend!

I'm no expert on trannies so it could be fine. My chevy buddy recently lost all but 3rd gear on his tranny with no signs of potential failure. His dad towed it home and they swapped em out in a few hours.. good as any rebuild/new replacement.

Good luck man. I sincerely hope it's something minor.

$200?

and if you do find a junked tranny, be prepared to do it all again, because that one will fail too, and without a warranty and put you in the same position as you are now. just my .02.

Classic signs of a soon to be dead tranny.

Whoa sorry I missed this one. I had the same problem and ended up being a small piece of a lock ring broke off and jammed in the valve body (?) blocking the fluid flow. When the tech got in the transmission he also found the OD band had got hot and started to burn up. There was also some other damage from me being a little too rough with my truck. Hard shifts partially to blame. Ended up costing right at $2k for a rebuild and beef up.

I had this exact problem this week. Read all the posts. Watched a few youtube how to video's. Decided what the heck - its a in car repair to check the broken snap ring issue. I have a 2004 5.4L super crew. Removed the pan, valve body and sure enough the over drive snap ring cracked and a small piece worked its way into the valve body sticking the OD valve. See the pictures of the new and old snap ring. The new snap ring cost $2.78. A new filter and some fresh oil and my time. All is perfect again. Total time was about 3 hours. I left everything stock but should have bought a upgraded valve body and oil pan but I just didnt have the time to wait for these parts. No one local stocks'em. If you fix it yourself just read up and make sure you create a card board template to organize all your bolts so they go back where they belong.
