I mounted an new cb antenna a few weeks again and cant seem to get low swr, it’s above 3 right now. I have moved the mount about 2 feet higher with no improvement.

Where do you guys have yours mounted?

Mine is mounted on my rear bumber right in the center.

Did you try adjusting the length of the antenna? There is usually a set screw to secure the whip in the post that holds it.

Yes, the swr is about even across the band so adjusting won't do much.

Do the window mounts really work that well? I guess I'm a little 'old school' when it comes to CB antennas and didn't think they'd be that great. I like the looks and don't want a huge whip nor do I have a good, asthetically pleasing place to mount a whip. Apologies for the hijack.

No. don't get a window mount if you want to get any descent signal. I should clarify on what I consider a window mount:

Now the reason your SWR is so high is because your antenna is feeding signal into the body and it's bouncing right back into the antenna. You have to get it away from any metal to the sides. So mount it on the roof or further back on the bed rails.

A longer antenna like a whip won't be as bad with SWR since most of the antenna will be above the body of the truck. You'll also want to make sure you have the correct antenna type for your mounting situation. There are ground plane and non-ground plane antennas if you have the wrong one you'll get crap reception and horrible output.
