DuHa says NO (?) to group buy

The DuHa underseat storage system has been a topic here and on another F150 forum over the past couple of days. I decided there might be enough interest for a 'group buy;'

Based on comments on the two sites - read the original posts - no one spported their $200 price tag. I've aproached DuHa about a group buy at $100 each. Here is the reply...

From: Dan Ouren // DU-HA

Subject: RE: du-ha.com-DU-HA Website Form Submission

It's hard to believe that someone who spends 35-50 thousand dollars for a
Pick-up would complain about a $200.00 storage unit that is designed specifically for each truck model. We are a small company, we can't buy a million of them at a time, and we make them in the USA. You know the old saying, "you get what you pay for." If you would like to discuss this further feel free to contact me at any time.

DU-HA, Inc.

Please post comments - pro or con - and I'll share all with DuHa as a matter of customer feedback. Keep comments cordial and focused on this question...

Will you buy a DuHa at the $200 retail price?
Would you buy one in a forum group buy for $100?

Here's a link to the product FYI

I'm a small business owner in America and can completely see DuHa's point of view here. I would buy one at that price, I just don't have that much money right now so I go without rather then asking for a discount.

If it's a small business, they do what they gotta. It's not like it's magnaflow or volant. I would just save a bit longer. I know you mean well, but they'll prolly take it as an insult that you don't want to support them and pay what they are asking.

I'd blow you off too if $100 was at or below my cost. You're assuming it costs next to nothing to manufacture those units. I think you need to approach them based on what discount they could offer the group, based on so many units. I just wanted to share those comments. They have to make something on the deal or why do it? I'm not interested in the buy. I'd rather my subwoofer to a storage unit.

A 50% discount is way to low to be asking, from any company, let alone a small company.
They are probably making 35% gross profit on their items, which means the item cost them $ 130.00. It takes at least 10% Gross Margin to keep the lights on. A fair group buy would be $ 175.00. That would allow DU-HA a fair profit (25% gross) and allow a group purchase discount of 12.5% a fair discount.

I however, have the factory sub, so I wouldn't be interested, but thought I should chime in anyway.

X10! Maybe go at them for a %20 discount at most, NOT %50! lol

By the way, I have a DU_HA and got it at 4Wheeler Parts for $169. WORTH EVERY PENNY! Especially if your a neat freak like me and don't want a tool box taking up half of your short bed bed.
It's solid and fits PERFECT. Goes in easy actually looks good under there, like it's factory.
My opinion, just save another $100 and getcha one!

yeah 50% is a little much. I would say somewhere around the 20-25% range off.

OK - I hear you --- let me add a note here - I'm not trying to be a villain or screw anyone. The thread elsewhere was more developed than the original one here and there were several comments that suggested $100 was the presumed fair price and the most anyone would pay. That's where the $100 price came from. I agree it's a heavy cut.

I also did not read his answer as an absolute no - thus the ? in my title. He welcomed me to call and discuss it further, so I think a group buy based on a x units for x dollars might be doable.

I presented it this way to simply give them a further gauge of consumer reaction to their price - based on the tone of his reply. Sort of like a focus group. It's interesting the tone of replies here is much more in support than the other forum - though I know there are a lot of dual members like myself.

So I'm not trying to offend anyone or steal anything. If you would have an interest in a group buy if one develops please say so. And continue to express your thoughts on the price but I don't need to be villified nor does he and the product. It was a simple inquiry based on comments read here and elsewhere.

I was simply hoping to put together a win win for everyone if there was interest.

Thanks.

Thanks, OP, for taking it upon yourself to determine the market value of this product and lumping all members this and the other big F150 site into a group that apparently doesn't understand business and would demand a 50% discount. Why not suggest he pay us to use the product?

Thanks Truck Guy - no offense taken - I was simply prepping for comments like ACs. For the record, I never "DEMANDED" anything. I simply contacted them with information there were several F150 owners who were interested in the product, but who had expressed the feeling that $200 was too high a price and their top price would be the $100 range... and i asked if they would be interested in making a group deal on that basis.

There were no demands and I lumped nobody - I made no suggestion that I represent this or any other forum group - simply stated I was aware the product was being discussed and here was the interest I was seeing.

I would say like you said Smokin... to offer them a bit higher price. That's reasonable to me. Never hurts, right?

Agreed Truck Guy - I still think a group buy could be done if there's enough interest - I do plan to go back to Mr. Ouren and explore what could be done - how may units at what price would work for them?

And if the results here and elsewhere suggest, I'll happily apologize to him - there was never any offense meant on my part to anyone - him or here on the forum, was simply exploring an opportnity at a price that more than I had suggested might be reasonable.
