57K On a 2004 and no tranny problems yet, I think...

I didn't think Ford was known for their Transmission problems til oneday, my dad was leaving to work in his 2000 Windstar (like 5 years ago when he had warranty and like 30k on it) went to go up the hill by our house and lost every gear aside from reverse, so he backed it up all the way home; hauled to ford on a bed, had the transmission rebuilt with such low miles.

Now i ask this because I do have 57k and no major problems yet, at least I don't think. Should i consider getting an extended plan? I only have 3k less and then I will need to decide if its worth....I plan on keeping this pickup for a long time.

We had a 06 F150 get traded in to where I work with 70k on it and supposedly it has a bad tranmission; the service advisor put it this way: "After your finish accelerating, you'll need to see a dentist"

So have any of you see virtually any transmission problems? Yes I will be looking at older threads just had to share this. Worst part is that the truck is immaculate condition for 06 SuperCab Fx4 Step-Side version which I like.....another bad part? They think they'll get $20k for it

I'm not sure what the service adviser thought was funny about it, i dont really get it...

nevertheless, i can give you the names and numbers of 4 other 04-06 5.4 owners have had the trannys replaced or rebuilt, including myself. this is in addition to another 3 who I do not have names and numbers for...

be smart, get the ESP... a remanned tranny will be $2k-$2500. i wish someone had given me this advice 8 months ago.

hmmm... im kickin right at 69k and my tranny hasnt given me a hiccup of trouble, never had the trans oil changed or anything...

i do got a story though about every chevy my papaw owned going out... and hes the type of guy to that just takes all his work to the "certified mechanics" at the certified gm specific brand dealer (i mean he still takes stuff for an oil change, the if they come out and tell him he needs whatever then hell tell em to go ahead and fix it)

first it was a lumina, nothing but care taken of it... and around 75k or so the tranny started slippin, the chevy place kept it up to date on trans oil

next a (regular) blazer.. same with it, they changed the oil in it and stuff and it slipped a little when he traded it off

now he just got a brand new equinox like a month ago and it gets the same treatment

with numbers like that not sure if ill ever get my trans flushed or anything

I am at 114K+ on a bone stock tranny that has seen a lot of abuse by sending to much power to it and towing 8Klbs for most of its life. It is a hit or miss on these trannys so what you need to do is to weight the cost of the service plan vs the cost of the tranny rebuild and maybe put aside money for the tranny rebuild in a seperate account than give the money to a extended warranty company. my .02

ah good idea. I may consider it since I plan on staying with it and I do drive my 5.4 hard. It has Banks Intake, Grphyons Tunes, True Dual Magnaflow Mufflers and it goes!!! Since I plan on putting bigger tires on it and lifting it more....think Ford will still honor the ESP or tell me I'm S.O.L because my bigger tires, lift or some other b.s. maybe responsible for it?

P.S. I have no idea what he found funny as well....I need to drive it myself, maybe I'll get his Ford joke

Well, in addition... your "tranny fund" will cover only the tranny, meanwhile, the same priced ESP will cover a lot more than just a tranny... it seems like a no brainer to me, especially considering how mnay forum member will atest to their transmissions needed service.

I have a 2006 and I could have sworn that I felt mine slipping a couple of weeks ago. I sure hope that's not what I felt.

Where did you get it, how much was it, and what engine/transmission do you have?

Mine blew up at 72k. The new one seems to be a lot better even with heavier tires, I think the original may have been a lemon...

51k on my 06. No problems here. The dealership i buy from gives you a 7 yr 100k mile warranty on powertrain at no cost, so Im good. Id say do the extended if you plan on keeping your truck

I have 67K on the clock and no issues....just change the fluid regularly and keep up on maintanance....also make sure to keep up on the 4 wheel drive system and rear diff.
