It's only a no-brainer if you assume it will go out. Even with all the reports here it's still more likely to be fine than to go out.

ESPs are profit makers. If you keep buying them, odds are almost certain you will come up on the short end in the long run. I wasted thousands on ESPs for three vehicles before I came to my senses.

Bottom line is that if I felt any vehicle was so unreliable that an ESP is a must, I would either sell it or not buy it in the first place.

well good info. I'm still half and half on it. I take care of my truck. did the tranny fluid at 43k as soon as i bought it from the other owner.....planning on changing out all the fluids in the spring if that helps....runs strong....fixed the IWE Solenoid issue so now I have no problems with it.

It definatly depends on how the previous owner drove it... I have 108,000 miles on my 04, no issues

Theses transmissions are not "known" to be bad. Ford has done pretty well in the past 10 years with their transmissions. The reason you "always hear about them going out" is because no one ever talks about the transmission doing great. Don't assume a product is bad because you see alot of people saying how bad it is on a forum that is used to bitch about our trucks.

The Esp is worth it if it gives you a piece of mind and if you can't or won't do the work yourself.

Mine went at 67k, my truck was previously leased and I don't think it was well taken care of, I could have paid for 3 esps by now with all my issues
