Seriously Contemplating a Fisher Homesteader Plow!

Well, after the last storm which dumped 2' with higher drifts across the driveway which is over 1/10 of a mile long, I priced out a 7'4" Fisher Homsteader Poly Plow for the truck! It only weighs 250Lbs! I am sick of freezing my balz off sitting on the Deere exposed to the elements+ it took me forever & a day to clear the driveway with the Deere X595 with the front loader attachment! I really cannot see this type of a lighweight plow hurting my truck. It goes for $3800.00 installed! For Pete's sake I see Tacomas, Cherokee's & S10's with plows! It's just for light duty in my driveway, I cannot really see anything that would hurt the truck in this situation....I have the tow Package with the 3.73 gears, larger radiator,& tranny cooler with the 5.4!........So I think that I am good to go!........

I see nothing wrong with plowing with these either. Even the next step up plow fisher makes is fine imo. We have a stock 09 chevy 1500 at work with the next step up fisher and it works great. I'm sure lots of people will chime in telling you your nuts, but whatever its not a 9ft commercial just do it.

I could not agree with you more! This truck is suppost to have the strongest frame in its class, I cannot see anything that this type of plow will hurt!

my neighbor has a plow on his 2001 f150 5.4 4x4, the people that installed it put stiffer springs in the front to accommodate the weight of the steel plow... Works well for him... nothings broke yet and he does about 4 or 5 drive ways about once a week on average...

however.. if you were to get a large 6 position plow ( pivots for V /\ --- \ or / ) I would move to a super duty.. then you'd have the ultimate plow truck... My dads work had a f350 dually with a LARGE pivoted plow... thing had a joystick and what not... it was the best plow truck they had.... besides the dumptruck with the 10' blade...

but for your 1/10 mile driveway... even a normal plow would probably be okay... get one with a quick on/off feature and you can put it on when you need it, and off when you don't... save some wear on your truck... my neighbor only puts his on when he needs it, goes on in under 5 minutes...

I can lift/move my bosses fisher 7'5" by myself when its off the truck so to me even the next step up from the homesteader is fine. Like I said his was dealer installed on his 09 chevy 1500 that supposedly cant hold a plow either, lol!
The truck should have at least a leveling kit though to help out, which since your on this site I am almost positive you already have one, lol!

I'm sure your not going to go plow your local walmarts lot out and I'm sure you aren't going to drive around with it up front all winter so to me its not hurting anything.

Plus when you actually buy the plow it miraculously wont snow for two years, lol!

Well I'm a salesman for John Deere, I've plowed snow, and I live outside Buffalo NY so... your X595 is a great machine but would do better in snow with blower and a cab. With that being said get a plow for your truck, I know lots of poeple around here with plows on their F150's. I would however spend a little more and get a real plow. Not a big fan of the lightweights, it might not have enough weight to keep the blade down if your busting dirfts higher than 2'. I personally like the Boss plows, I might also consider a Curtis (mostly because I'm a dealer and can get it at cost) Around here Fisher has almost disapeared, not sure why.

You will be fine. One of our former plow rigs was a 93 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L-6/5spd with a 6.5' Western plow. We use that for almost 10 yrs plowing and it would be out getting worked for anywhere from 4 hrs up to 10 hrs depending on the amount of snow that we got. The only reason that we got rid of it was because it started to have a couple rust spots forming, so we unloaded it while it still looked pretty good. A landscaping/plow company in Milwaukee ended up buying it from us.

If that little old Jeep could hold up to what we put it through, our F150 shouldn't have a problem! Although I wouldn't recommend using a F150 for commercial jobs, but for just your driveway, GO FOR IT!!

well theres a brand new 2009 chevy 1500 with a brand new fisher HD 7'6" plow on it in my driveway right now, lol! I dont know what to tell ya, guess the chevy is stronger?? (I hope not) I'll take pics tomorrow. The truck has no issue with this plow either.
Of course my names not on the title so I really dont care what happens to the truck, I just drive it for work. But I plowed with it twice for work so far and besides the fact that I hate the truck itself the plow does great with are parking lot, lol! In reality its doing commercial plowing.
The truck is a 2009 chevy 1500 ext cab z71 LTZ. Totally stock.

I have a SuperCrew Cab! That plow would be too much for the front end due to the weight of the plow & mostly the SuperCrew Cab configuration! For my needs & vehicle cab configuration the Fisher HomeSteader Plow will be just right!......

Yep for sure! I noticed there is also a light duty poly style plow for mid size and full size 1/2 tons on fishers site, maybe check into that also.

I have considered something like the SnowSport® HD - Plow. Very light, easy on and off, and not $3800 either. Weighs 110 pounds not including mount, all total shipped with front reese style hitch recepticle is 225 pounds. No electrics or hydraulics. 7 or 8 foot width.

Or the Plow Buddy maybe.

Watch videos.

I would never attatch a reese hitch to the front of my truck & quite frankly the other one is quite Gay!....... But thanks anyway!........
